foods i grew up thinking i hated, for no discernible reason - avocados, and by extension guacamole. whaat? most delicious ever. <3 my first spanish teacher for showing me the error of my ways.
- mayonnaise, and by extension potato salad. i have definitely never tried either of these foods, and still haven't been able to bring myself to. they just look so gross. but they might be good..?
- almost all salads, even though i like all the constituent vegetables and most salad dressings. i think this one is a result of hating the type of lettuce my parents bought when i was little, which had no flavor and tended to get soggy... i eat them slightly more often now, but still tend to prefer my vegetables individually or in stir fry.
- pears, and most other fruit except for apples and oranges. probably a result of the fact that my family (except my mom) doesn't eat fruit at all, so we don't really buy it, so my introduction was school lunch fruit. and also the fact that i really do hate bananas. but i am eating so much fruit this year, it's awesome. mmm.
- fruit salad. still can't do it, don't know why.
foods i grew up thinking i liked, but ewwww
- soda
- 99% of candy (ie, candy that is not dark chocolate). i still eat it if it's around, out of habit, but i really don't like it. i don't actually like sweet things all that much. (this doesn't apply to ice cream/etc or most baked goods, though even those i can really only do in small amounts.) but yeah, i tend to like the food part better than the desert part. apparently i am a freak in this regard.
- also, apparently i am allergic to something in sugarless gum? for the past year or so my breathing issues have been pretty much gone (aside from times when i know what's causing it, ie less than 3h of sleep). but the last two times i had sugarless gum, they were back with a vengeance within five minutes.
the ingredients, not including the non-helpful ones like 'artificial flavor': Sorbitol, Gum Base, Hydrogenated Glucose Syrup, Glycerin, Maltodextrin, Blue 1 Lake, Blue 1, Aspartame, Gum Acacia, Modified Cornstarch, Gelatin, Soy Lecithin, Acesulfame Potassium, Isomalt, and Sucralose. i don't eat a lot of processed foods (really, hardly any - not by design; i just don't like them. the smell of the bread aisle at grocery stores is one of my least favorites ever) so it's hard to narrow a lot of this down. further research is required.
edit: from looking at wikipedia, it looks like it's either the blue no. 1 or the aspartame. iiiiinteresting. (i'm really hoping it's not an interaction between multiple ingredients, because that would just be complicated.)
things i have always hated and will always hate
- milk
- bananas
