Rape is a Weapon of Opression

This story is appalling for many reasons. Not because it is a story of young men being raped. Not because it is happening in a tyranical regime where all our protests will avail naught. Not even because rape is used as a weapon of opppression the world over.
The Magna Carta was drawn up almost 800 years ago. 95 theses inviting open debate were posted on a church door in Wittenberg almost 500 years ago. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was drawn up almost 200 years ago. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was drawn up about 50 years ago.
All our leaders would say that they perfectly understand the concepts addressed by these documents and readily agree with them. But we are still stuck with social systems that were innefective during the feudal period. It is long past time we and our leaders matured to an evolved social state where we no longer use terror as a weapon. I say 'mature' because terror does not work as a weapon. One has only to look at all the nations of this earth that have consistently used such tactics to notice their populations do not support those regimes and that terror only creates one thing with certainty: opposition and cruelty.
