On the 11th, Mom and I went to see a play entitled Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story. At first we really didn't think we were going to make it. The bus didn't arrive until about five minutes to three with the play starting at three. Then, we had to walk two very long blocks to get to the theater. When we got inside, it was so bright outside that we couldn't see anything inside. The ushers told us to go through the doors on our right and then to the left to get our tickets. They forgot to mention to watch out for the two stairs we had to go down to get to the box office before we could turn left. We weren't hurt, but everything seemed to be against us getting to the show. Thankfully, they held the doors for us, we got in and as we were sitting down, the doors were closing. We loved the play! And we sang along to the music whenever we could without distracting all those around us, which was mostly during the intermission. A woman Mom knows both from church and the fact that her husband works at Mom's office was in the play. We couldn't find her name anywhere in the playbill. We were later told that she used her maiden name as well as she didn't use her nickname either. No wonder we didn't find her. At one point in the play, the audience is allowed to see the announcer and all the singers backstage of a huge dance party. The announcer is upset because the programs haven't been delivered. So a few moments later, we're taken to in front of the curtain and the audience becomes the audience of the dance party. The announcer apologizes for the fact that the programs are now being passed out. At which point, four girls come out and pass out little one page programs that have been folded in half. The woman who handed the programs to me smiled so widely at me as I took them, took the top one for myself and passed the rest on. I opened my program and found a little red sticker inside. So I leaned over to see Mom's to see what color her sticker was. She didn't have one and I was confused. I thought they'd do some kind of audience participation thing where everyone with a red dot would do one thing, everyone with a different colored dot would do something else. But like I said, Mom had no dot. The announcer then said that one of the programs has a lucky red dot in it and they'd win a prize. So I very excitedly held my program up. I won a coupon for two free small sundaes at the Dairy Queen down the street. I was so excited, I was bouncing off the wall. I told Mom and she said, "It's just Dairy Queen." But I was too excited to care! On the way out, everyone from the audience kept congratulating me. It was pretty funny. Mom had a hot fudge sundae and I got a coco fudge sundae. I loved it. Then, we walked the ten blocks home, which I thoroughly regretted wearing my healed boots for, but there was little to no choice. At least I'm alive. We kept singing Buddy Holly songs the whole way home even though we could only sing about two lines of each song since that was all we knew. Now I really want a Buddy Holly CD! It was a fantastic day overall.
I have more to write from other days, but I'm too tired to do so now. So I'll do my damnedest to remember tomorrow.....
