Character Name: Eugene Fitzherbert FLYNN RIDER
Series: Tangled
Age: Early 20's ish.
From When?: Right after being smashed in the head with a frying pan. Life's a bitch.

Inmate/Warden: Inmate. At this point in canon, Flynn is a selfish, manipulative, thieving douchebag. While he's never actually killed anyone, he ditches his comrades to get caught by the palace guard (and thus basically leaving them to be executed for a crime he had a direct role in committing), and slightly in the future from his canonpoint, he tries to get Rapunzel to turn back by freaking her out/manipulating her so he can just take the crown and go, and generally is looking out for one person: himself.
Item: N/A

Abilities/Powers: Flynn is a normal human, although very physically capable (easily scampering over rooftops) and apparently pretty gifted at combat when armed with a frying pan. He's pretty skilled on horseback and a good runner and climber, but nothing superhuman or out of the ordinary.

Personality: Flynn Rider is incredibly smooth, suave, clever and knows how to get what he wants from people. He's quiet talented at what he does, and while the basis of his reputation might be fake, the rest of it is stuff he's actually built and constructed for himself, and he's pretty pleased with what he's developed over the last few years. He's good looking and he knows it, and he oozes self confidence and frankly, arrogance. This... is at least partially an act, or at least a carefully crafted facade so no one knows that the confident, accomplished thief is actually an orphan with a dorky name. As such, he plays his cards very close to the vest, and doesn't "do backstory", telling people very little about himself or where he comes from, and generally he respects other people's boundaries as well. Because really, he doesn't really care about where you came from or where you're going unless it somehow benefits him, so if it doesn't, he doesn't need to know. He's not quite a liar, he just habitually avoids or omits the truth.

There is one person in the world Flynn cares about, and that is... himself. There might have been a time where this wasn't the case, but as an adult, Flynn has learned it's safest and easiest to be looking out for number one, and that is something he's totally comfortable with. No one else is going to bother looking out for him, so why the hell not? As long as he can keep someone at arm's length, he's in control of his own fate, something he didn't have as a child and something he's been really enjoying since leaving the orphanage, and he's reluctant to give that control up again now that he has it.

As such, he is definitely not above being incredibly manipulative to get what he wants. He is more than alright with cozying up to someone or pretending to be just looking out for you only to turn around and reveal he's actually doing it out of purely selfish motives, and whether or not you pick up on it is frankly only his problem if he gets caught. People are pretty much just tools to achieve what he wants, and once they lose their importance, he has no problems with cutting ties quickly and efficiently, or more or less stabbing you in the back. In fact, he prefers this, and hasn't actually been close friends with anyone in quite some time, keeping his business associates at more than arm's length while continuing to play the suave, collected thief and wanted criminal. At this point in his life, he actually has pretty much zero interest in long term relationships of any kind, and really just wants to have a nice, relaxing life on an island with a lot of money he can spend on whatever he wants. While that might seem selfish (and, honestly, it is pretty selfish given that the means to accomplish this are not exactly legal, and thieving isn't a victimless crime), he's had to work hard for everything he has in life, which isn't much, and the idea of being able to kick back and relax with everything he's ever wanted, without having to work anymore or struggle to make a name for himself sounds pretty damn good.

He can come off as extremely cocky, but this is something built up more from the fact that he is actually very good at what he does, and he isn't afraid to let other people know about it. In general, except under periods of extreme pressure or being confronted with something really out of his perception of normality, Flynn is very easy going and can roll with the punches easily. Chatting with the guards you're in the process of thieving from? Why not. Being held hostage by a girl with extremely long hair in a tower? No problem. Sword fighting with a horse? Strange, but you know, weird stuff happens every day, right? He's adaptable and clever, and can usually figure out a way out of just about every situation, even if it means potentially embarrassing himself or taking some crazy risk. As long as there's a shot he's going to get out of there alive, preferably with whatever he came in with, it's a risk worth taking. It probably would not be difficult to label him an optimist. Not much can really get him down - except maybe looking actual imminent death in the face - as he usually can come up with a way to get out of whatever mess he's found himself in, and is generally resilient, trying things until they work out for him or the plan changes and another outcome is more desirable (as in, if you can't get the girl to let you go the first two times, you try try again until you decide you actually kind of like having her around). Because of this, it wouldn't be difficult to say he's stubborn, or at least very goal oriented, and has a hard time giving up on these goals once he has them in mind.

His sense of humor follows this general quick witted adaptability, and while he isn't someone who goes around cracking jokes or doing anything like that, he is very witty and generally sarcastic, happily commenting along on the crazy situations he finds himself in and quipping at people without much concern for their reaction. He can be pretty frank with people (outright telling Rapunzel working with him is a horrible idea) and doesn't seem to really believe in ideas like fate and destiny (commenting flatly that it was a horse that brought him to the tower, not anything otherworldly), instead putting most of his faith in himself and his ability to become the man he's always wanted to be. He's also someone who really has a good time doing what he does, and likes poking fun of and commentating on what he's up to. Unless his life is actually in danger, he's pretty much always in a good mood when pulling a heist, and there's really no question about whether or not he actually enjoys life and what he does for a living.

He has a bit of a flare for the dramatic (although he doesn't like singing unless he's being threatened at sword point to do so) and at least somewhat vain, hating that the people drawing his wanted posters screw up his nose (intentionally or unintentionally, although Flynn is pretty sure at once point they're just being mean) and sometimes going to his good looks as a last resort to get out of situations when pretty women are involved. This, apparently, has mixed success at best, but still is a tactic worth trying.

Flynn... is not really going to react well to the Barge. While his canon isn't exactly the most normal setting in the entire world (in that animals are basically as intelligent as people, girls have magic hair that glow when they sing and people occasionally burst into song), Flynn doesn't react well to unexpected things, again, re: magic glowing hair. While he can come around on it relatively quickly, his first reaction is generally to totally lose his shit screaming and trying to wrap his mind around what he just saw. So, in all likelihood, a lot of stuff on the Barge is going to be garnering that reaction, at least until he gets used to it and builds up a tolerance to suddenly waking up as a woman or an animal or blurting out secrets to the rest of the Barge. It won't really shock him to be an inmate, and while he isn't really going to love being here, he won't be actively trying to assist in escape attempts either, and will probably just try to ignore his warden as much as possible in favor of doing his own thing. He won't like that they have his file and therefore know about his pre-Flynn Rider life, but he'll probably act more like a sulky teenager than actually actively try to make their life miserable. He will, at first, try to manipulate them into doing what he wants, and probably attempt cozying up to achieve this, but will probably be very at odds with anyone who's actively pushing him to change for a long time, and will again, mostly just ignore them.

Path to Redemption: Balancing Flynn Rider and Eugene Fitzherbert (so basically, not necessarily abandoning some of his more obnoxious traits, but embracing the fact that he is actually capable of being a really good guy once he gets over the arrogance and selfcenteredness, and it's okay to be that good person) is a huge part of what he needs to learn, in that he's pretty much separated the two for most of his adult life. Eugene is the relatively helpless little kid he was, and Flynn is the badass adult that he is, and he really hasn't found a way to reconcile the two because he doesn't want to be Eugene anymore, as being Flynn Rider is more fun and fulfilling for him. Realizing that being more than just a smug, arrogant jerk who doesn't care about anyone is a good thing, and getting him to be more okay with his past will help him strike a healthy balance, and help smother the douchebag parts of his personality, because even if he's not consciously aware of it, they really are just a crutch and he doesn't actually need it.

Flynn really just needs to learn to care about other people. This isn't going to be incredibly difficult, in that he really isn't a truly morally bankrupt villain, he's just decided that doing bad things is easier than the alternative. Again, as long as he can keep someone at arm's length, he's in control of his own fate, which isn't something he had as a child at the orphanage, and he doesn't really know how to balance being in control of his own destiny and letting other people in because he's never really been in a position where he's had to learn. Get him to stop being manipulative/willing to throw people under the proverbial bus for his own benefit and stop being so focused on what he wants, and once he realizes that having friends and loved ones is actually really fulfilling and worthwhile, he'll have made huge progress and basically be ready to head home, especially if he's learned the importance and value of selflessness and doing things for other people without getting things in return.

He also kind of needs to be cured of his money is the only thing that matters thought process, and learn that there are other ways to be successful that don't include breaking into places and robbing people blind. Get him to realize that doing bad things because they're easier than doing good isn't a smart way to go through life, and really make him think about why being a thief isn't necessarily the smartest life goal, even if it might be able to get him cash faster. Give him some healthy alternatives, or at least get him to admit that being filthy rich on a private island might be nice, but there's other more easily obtainable stuff to enjoy doing too, and he'll be basically all set.

History: He doesn't do backstory. We'll spare you the sob story of poor orphan Eugene Fitzherbert. It's a little bit of a downer. The important part is, Eugene spent most of his childhood in an orphanage, and every night, would read The Tales of Flynnagan Rider to the younger kids. It pretty much became his life's inspiration, because Flynnagan was everything he wanted to be: a swashbuckling rogue, the richest man alive who wasn't bad with the ladies either, and somehow managed to be modest about it. He had enough money to do or go wherever he wanted, and for a kid with nothing, that sounded like a pretty sweet deal. Of course, Eugene didn't exactly have the means to just fall into that, so at some point, he left the orphanage and became a thief, changing his name to something less derpy and building up a fake reputation for himself based on the book. He eventually became an infamous thief in his own right, but always ended up skirting around his actual final goal of being filthy rich and being able to head off on his own and enjoy himself.

At some point, he fell in with the Stabbington Brothers, and decided to steal the crown of the lost princess of Corona. This last job would probably finally get him what he wanted, so after successfully retrieving it and running from the guards, Flynn ditched the two bothers and kept running, eventually getting tailed by one of the guard's horses - Maximus - and escaping by ducking into a small tunnel in a rock formation hidden by vines. After he was sure he wasn't being followed, he turned around and discovered he'd wandered into a glade with an impressive looking tower. Figuring he could continue to hide from his pursuers there for a while, he quickly climbed up the tower and shortly there after, planned on kicking back and appreciating a job well done.

And then he was clubbed on the head with a frying pan and the next thing he knew, he was on the Barge.

Sample Journal Entry:
[Flynn has taken his journal up to the deck and at this point, has somehow more or less figured out how to get the video function working without making a complete derp of himself. He's badass like that. So, you're getting a lovely view of the deck, specifically focusing on all those stars hanging out in the black, narrated by Flynn, who sounds a little self satisfied and smug through the whole thing.

Apparently he's adjusted to the whole I'm stuck here now thing pretty well, after the initial OH GOD WHY, anyway.]

You know, I could get used to a view like this.

I mean, once you get over the horrible feeling of what on earth is this thing floating on, it's actually pretty nice! All sorts of stars, that weird... well, whatever it is we're traveling on. Way better than anything I would have had in prison back home, let me tell you. Not to mention the whole probably getting executed and not really getting to enjoy whatever I could see for long anyway thing, although I guess I'd have just wound up here a little later than I already did.

Not that I'm totally enjoying myself here or anything, but it's got a couple perks. [And raising his voice a little, his tone become a mite more obnoxious:] Could do without being babysat every day of the week though, thanks warden. I'm a big boy, I can take care of myself for a few hours without something going terribly wrong.

Crazy, I know, but you've got to give me the benefit of the doubt sooner or later.

Sample RP:
At this point, Flynn had sort of gotten used to the Barge. Alright, so he was dead and stuck in some freaky prison ship with a bunch of other weirdos from places that were definitely nothing like he was used to, and he was going to be here until he felt like "making progress" and "graduating". And while he was still on some level pretty annoyed that he was here, he could deal with it.

It wasn't like he had much choice in the matter anyway.

So he was maybe getting used to things. Which meant, while he'd been warned about floods, he'd sort of filed that information away for later and decided it wouldn't be a huge deal. So when the Barge rumbled and tilted a little to one side, he just grabbed for the nearest wall and tried to regain his footing.

"Woah."

And then the Admiral chimed in - "Attention passengers, we seem to have taken on water. Please be aware of any changes." - and that seemed to be that.

Well, if this was a flood, it definitely wasn't as bad as everyone had made it sound like it was going to be. He didn't feel any different, and it wasn't like they'd suddenly been dumped into an actual dungeon or whatever, so evidently, everyone was really misinformed about how lousy this stuff actually was to sit through. "Huh."

... Wait a second. That... was definitely not what his voice usually sounded like. And was he shorter? That doorknob had definitely seemed a little farther away than it had been.

Okay. Don't panic. Don't panic.

"What- What's happening?"

He glanced around quickly, already kind of freaking out, when he caught sight of what he was wearing. And... certain other changes that just simply did not compute with what he expected to see when looking down at himself.

"What am I- WHY AM I A GIRL?"

He stumbled backwards and away from the wall, and almost immediately tripped over something, landing on the ground with a very undignified oof. Trying not to panic - because he was apparently now a short, blonde girl in a purple dress and this was definitely not what he had woken up as this morning - he tried to get a look at what he'd tripped over, and all he saw was a lot of blonde hair trailing around on the ground around him.

A lot of blonde hair.

"Is this... hair?"

Special Notes: I know Flynn does redeem himself in canon, but we definitely have precedent for characters who really straddle the line between warden and inmate (Snape, Cooper, Costigan, and Heero all come to mind as people who either redeem themselves in canon or are actually relatively redeemed by the time their canon is over) and from this point in canon, he really is kind of an asshat. :V Plus, learning to care about Rapunzel doesn't necessarily mean learning to give other people a shot too, and he could do with some learning to be a little more honest with people as well.

Also, this is a trade in for Zuko.
