Now, for Luke, my year in review. Sorry it took so long to get written! Enjoy.
For me, 2006 was a year of changes - lots of new things happened! I'll start with the main things that stayed the same, though.
I continued with my course - Professional Writing and Editing at the CAE. Only two subjects this year, which felt pretty slow at first, but turned out well later on. One was a core subject that I'd been putting off and dreading because of unappealing things I'd heard, and the other was one that just looked a lot of fun. They both turned out to be better than I expected.
I've been doing my Irish Step Dancing classes all year, and it's going really well. I have no idea whether or not I'm getting any better or fitter, but it's certainly fun, and I can see myself going on with it for a few more years yet. After all, I still don't know a third step to my hard-shoe reel...!
The main thing that changed was that I moved! Except for the brief times when I was living in Paris and England, I've been in West Brunswick since 1992. It was a great place to live, despite a few annoying into-the-city-and-out-again public transport complications, but I haven't missed it at all. The new place is an apartment in Docklands (right by the city centre), very different, but also extremely easy to get used to. The only problem was having to remember a new home phone number...
Partly because we moved and partly because my old job was rubbish and I desperately needed something better, I spent a lot of the first part of the year looking for new work. I did a bit of work for some people with a home office in my apartment building, and I (gasp) turned down a library job before I started at the DPC. It's the first full-time job I've really enjoyed. The people are great and the work is interesting. I've even (bigger gasp) made some new friends of my own. I can't remember the last time I made a friend who wasn't essentially a friend-through-someone-else-usually-Diana.
I found myself a boyfriend! Or he found me, or it was a sort of mutual finding. I haven't killed him yet.
I've taken a couple of breaks from AU. The first one was because I simply needed it - playing wasn't all that much fun and there were so many issues that just don't belong in a game (what's wrong with people?). Actually, I had a fun time looking at an SF game that was pretty cute. If I had the time, it might be nice to explore it a little more... but I don't and I'm not really that interested. The other break is just now that I don't have the time or enough inclination to make the time to play.
Next year, I have my job to continue with, and hopefully I'll return to Uni at some point. I'd like to work a bit longer, so I'm considering deferring my course (if I get into it) for half a year. I'm also thinking of moving out... we'll see how that goes. (I like my Docklands apartment!)
That's my year. I hope you all had an equally rewarding year, and a great one coming up too.
