Man, I was doing *so* well on this regular updating thing ... then
tjh102 intro'd me to the (highly welcoming) insanity that is Gateworld (from now on referred to as GW, natch).
*hangs head*
On the upside (there are multiple upsides, actually!), I've made some new friends :D Yay! :D
*waves to
geekysam,
neeplet, happy pre-bday wishes going out to
pengyn*
So, um ... right. News. In brief. (Shhhhh - I can do brief...ish. Really, I can! Sigh...)
Went down to Dunstable, met up with H (who had bussed over from Oxford, b/c she rocks like that), and went to look at a property. Decided to go with it. Sent in downpayment/fees and filled out forms. Found out that price now includes ALL utilities. Did multiple little happy dances. Fielded calls from HomeLet twice now asking for more contact details on my current LL, b/c they couldn't reach him. Hmmmm. Texted Martyn (aforementioned LL), who told me that he had spoken with them and gave me a great reference, and btw, do I know what date I'll be moving yet? Well huh. NO, b/c the housing agency has neglected to call me and confirm that I've got the property. Right. So I wait through the weekend, still no call. I call 3 times yesterday, to find out that the Dunstable office's phones are down, and the agents are apparently all using their mobiles atm. Grrrrrr. I'm calling back this morning.
Spent yesterday researching how the heck to get my as-of-yet-very-unpacked belongings down there (for those of you unfamiliar with English geography, I'm moving from Durham (North East) to near Luton (1/2 hour outside of London via train) ... so about 260 miles, roughly -- the distance(ish) b/w Cambridge and Kingston, for those Ontarians out there. Which I did multiple times during uni, I agree. The difference being I had a car at the time, and a dad willing to both rent and drive a U-Haul, not to mention a driving license valid for the country I was in at the time. Slight complications. Emma has crazily nicely offered to drive a van, if I rent it. Cool. I sent out two emails to movers in the area asking for quotes, but have yet to receive anything back. I was going to head over to Newcastle today to check out one of the van rental places, but I'm very tempted to do my comparisons by phone instead.
Tracy and I went over to Andy and Louisa's for a games night on Sat - that was fun. A bit tense at times (we get competitive, dammit!), but yeah. Unfortunately, Andy is a morning person, as in enjoys being conscious during the daylight hours, so packing up at 3am was perhaps not according to his plan, but yeah. This is what happens when you invite two nighthawks to come over 'whenever' ... hey - we were there, bearing Ben & Jerry's Phish Food by mid-afternoon, as promised! We didn't get to play my Stargate monopoly again, but maybe next time. (Yes, I own a lovely hand-constructed Stargate SG1 version of monopoly, thanks to
malab ...
tjh102 has pics, if this is both news to you and interests you! :P)
Oh yes, and I've actually posted some more fic. Go me :P You can check it out, assuming you are so inclined at:
http://www.fanfiction.net/~missmeyet I also reread some of my older stuff, esp. X-roads, in hopes that I'll be able to pick up the thread and finish (or at least continue) ... unfortunately I kept getting hung up on my writing style - which I'm now finding sluggish and a job to slog through - never a good sign. Sigh ... and I really *liked* that story! But I don't want to rewrite the existing chapters ... grrrrr. Sigh...
In geeky news,
tjh102 and I are on our way to GABIT (AT3) (for more info, take a gander at
http://www.gabitevents.co.uk) in May! Hello Amanda Tapping! Woot! *does another lil happy dance, and continues to ignore growing credit card repayments* We also found a con at the end of October that apparently Michael Shanks and Christopher Judge will be attending (although admittedly I'm slightly more ooooooooooh over the fact that Jewel Staite and Erick Avari will be there - does that make me more or less of a geek? Hmmmmmmm.....).
goldenhawkw is planning on coming down for a "research trip" at that time, and
malab may be flying over to visit, so while it'll be a full house, it'll also be an awesomely amazing one for a week!!!
In other news - I found out recently that John and Shelley are expecting! Yay! I may even be able to get home for birth/christening, as Shelley is due roughly around my Easter holidays ... I was planning on going to BC with Wolsie again (yes, I know I don't teach there anymore, but I've been informed that I'm still incredibly welcome to join them on the trip), but if the timing looks like it'll work out, maybes I'll head to Ontario instead :P I'd actually get to be home for a couple birthdays as well, which is always a good thing ... not to mention I might be able to swing in a trip up Ktown way ... we'll see.
Yes, I know this was supposed to be brief. Shush.
You may now return to your regularly-scheduled lives now.
