the good, the bad, and the irksome, take two.

Jun 20, 2007 15:46

This is take two, because I actually tried typing it yesterday ... didn't quite manage it. Sigh....

o I'm actually relatively planned for the week, which means I can actually use my planning time to mark :) Yayness!
o I managed to earn a favour from the head of the English department today (see irksome, below). Edit: and today too - go me :)
o Finally heard back from Ashton, and my lacking of my copy of the current CRB is okay, because I'm going to have to do a new one anyway. Apparently my schedule is also ready for me - woohoo!

o Elphie died today.
o Just remembered that I promised to mark stuff for my year tens before tomorrow's lesson -- which would be first lesson, of course. Sigh.
o Also just remembered that I'm supposed to start a new unit with them tomorrow -- the implementation of which I haven't actually planned as of yet. Shit.
o Ashton doesn't want me to come on the day that Wolsie offered -- in fact, they want me to come on the one day that Wolsie has already kiboshed. *rolls eyes* what were the bleepin' odds, eh???? Back to the negotiating table...
o Had an unpleasant run-in with a student this morning. She behaved incredibly rudely yesterday, so I took it up with her form tutor this morning. So at the end of lunch, she stops me and starts haranguing me about why I would try to get her into trouble, as obviously none of this was her fault and I'm basically making things up. So not only was that an incredibly frustrating and circular conversation, she held me up long enough that I was very late for registration. Thank TPTB that I have a sixth form group, because I'm almost *always* late on Wednesday afternoon....

o My legs are so incredibly itchy ... but everytime I scratch them, I don't stop until I'm bleeding ... gargh.
o My inexplicable heart palpatations seem to have returned. Bothersome.
o Last week Debbie, the choreographer, asks me if it's alright if she leaves early on Tues because she needs to pick up her kids from the child-minder. Sure - I didn't know there was a rehearsal Tues, or rather, that my presence had be requested/assumed, but sure, I can do the last half hour with the chorus, no problem. I check with Andrew, the musical director, if that works with his plans, only to find out that he can't make it anyway, so had no plans for music that night. Right. Moving on ... next day Christina, the director, asks me if I can take the principals on Tues, because she's going to be off-sight. I explain that I can only take them for the first half hour, as I'm supposed to have the chorus for the second half hour (all the while wondering where the heck Nick, the ass't director, and/or Lynne, the general ass't, are planning on being, but nm). Christina decides to tell the principals to come in on Wed instead. We're having a rehearsal on Wed? Also news to me! But I smile and nod, and merrily we're on our way. Tuesday morning -- I still haven't arranged for a lift home yet. Um ... but Emma shows up to save my butt (yay for Emma!!!). Then she takes a call from a very ill Debbie -- she's going straight home b/c she's ill, can I please be a dear and run the entire rehearsal tonight? It'll only be about 15 kids .... yeah. Alright then. So Emma sets the room and I head up top to gather said chorus and bring them down the music room. We go over the song a good half dozen times (which I think is sort of a waste of time, considering it's actually a song that the principals sing the vast majority of, however, the chorus now can fill in when/if the principals die off during the song). Not ideal, but we make it happen. About 5.30, I get a call from Christina. She just received a text from Debbie telling her the situation, so was calling to check on whether I managed to salvage some sort of rehearsal afterall. I assured her that I did, thanks to Emma's timely presence, and life is good. She thanked me profusely, and that was that. Until ...
o I had hoped to get out of tonight's apparent rehearsal due to the good will that I garnered after being dropped into it last night. Then I get a call from Christina -- Andrew is off-sight again, and Debbie's still off ill. Apparently the chorus is scheduled to come in again, so could I possibly.... yeah. There goes all hopes of getting home anytime soon, because this also now means that Christina will drop me off in Crook, but I have to take the bus from there. Sigh ... and then only 5 girls show up, not to mention that only 5 girls showed tonight!!! Okay, so they're great kids, but still -- and the songs that they're in involve mostly 'ooh', 'woo', 'doobie-doo', etc. Not a lot to go over for two bloody hours!!! *seething more than slightly* On the upside, Christina now thinks that I'm totally dependable (not 100% sure if this is a good thing or not, as it seems to be heading towards the department of give it to Amy, she'll do anything!) and I'm pretty sure she owes me at least one favour now! Nice position to have one's head of department in :P

...and now aren't y'all so glad that I've returned to LJ?
*grin*
