Kaiba looked at himself in the mirror. His reflection told of just how far he was willing to go to make sure that Pegasus was not favouring Zeigfried and his company over KaibaCorp. The way he had left things with Pegasus the last time he saw him, and this party made him incredibly nervous, nervous enough that he was willing to do this

Pegasus had been taking it slow for the rest of the week after his misfortunate racket ball incident, staying at home and using the preparations for the party as an excuse. However that had somewhat backfired on him now that he actually looked out over the packed courtyard where guests were still arriving and milling about
( ... )
Zeigfried smiled winningly at the throng as Pegasus made his speech. All the while, Kaiba tried not to fiddle with the blonde wig he was wearing. Not too bright of course, he was trying not to get noticed, and in this crowd he should be able to remain unnoticed, as long as he didn't catch the eye of anyone who really knew him. And that meant staying away from Pegasus and Zeigfried.
The latter was laughing happily as Pegasus pushed him forward, quite enjoying the attention, lapping it up. It was his birthday, of course he was going to enjoy himself. So many pretty things here today, and the lush roses. he was a very happy man today.
Kaiba scowled, then reminded himself that doing just that would make him stick out like a sore thumb. He had to play the part and spy. Kami-sama the things he was willing to do for his company. He found this the most disturbing so far.
The guests were escorted by Pegasus staff through to the opulence of the ballroom and out to the gardens beyond. Pegasus himself waited behind with Ziegfried while the champagne started flowing and the tea and sweets were served. "I think we've got ourselves a record turn out for a tea party Ziggy-boi. You're just too popular these days, my gardens are never going to be the same." Pegasus said with mock lamentation, thinking of the lovely afternoon he could be out there painting japanese iris that were instead likely going to be trodden on or thrown up on by the evening. His peaceful reclusive castle was absolutely overrun and it brought up unpleasant memories from his Duelist Kingdom days.
Kaiba slid out into the garden, it had more places to hide. He would probably be better trying to get within hearing distance when the party was in full flow, and a few drinks had been consumed by both host and guest of honour alike. For now, he was hiding amongst the crowds, and definitely taking advantage of the champagne. There was no way in hell he was going to last this event dressed like this without some drink on board.
Currently Zeigfried was laughing at Pegasus.
"I do hope that is not the case, and if there is any real damage, I would be happy to make it up to you." He told the older man, eyes shining.
Croquet came up beside Pegasus just before they headed down to mingle with the crowds, quietly informing his Master of something. Pegasus looked surprised at his words and looked around a bit.
"Kaiba-bois here? I was sure I'd have noticed him. Perhaps he sent someone else in his place?"
Croquet spoke up then.
"I will look for him for you Sir, but it is likely he gave his pin away."
Pegasus waved him off, the momentary brightness leaving his face for a more carefully schooled and refined mask for dealing with the masses. There was no real excitement left in his expression when he turned back to Zigfried.
"I won't keep you from your guests any longer Ziegfried, let us go and partake in some refreshments. There will be a surprise for you later on if you're good."
He teased him a little about the entertainment he'd set up. There was to be a lolita fashion show in the early evening and a performance by Ziegfrieds favourite singer to end it, followed of course by birthday cake and fireworks. This tea party was not going to be boring.
Kaiba refused to admit he felt nervous as Croquet approached Pegasus. He couldn't hear what they were talking about from this distance, but he just got a feeling in his gut that Croquet had just revealed he was here. Great, definitely avoid Pegasus, he did not want a confrontation in front of this many people dressed like this!
Zeigfried however smiled excitedly.
"What fun. You are a wonderful host of course. Then again, one would never expect anything else from a man such as yourself." he said, piling on the compliments with a flourish of his hands.
While Zeigfried was having a wonderful time at his party, being fawned over in the manner he liked best, Kaiba was remembering just why, as much as he liked the female of the species, he had to be careful with them, very careful. They could be terrors and a threat to all mankind. All of a sudden five of them were converging on him, and he was so not attempting a falsetto. He'd rather die roasted by his dragons first.
He was not intimidated in the least, and stared Giselle down coolly, not giving a damn about how she was looking at him, aside from was she going to start a scene.
"I fail to see how it is any of your business." he said softly, but with a warning edge to his tone.
He was not amused being dressed in all this lace and frills, never mind the layers of petticoats swishing round his thighs when he moved. He was in no mood to deal with Giselle and her cronies.
Kaiba was so stunned by the swift 180 Giselle did that he didn't spot the danger till it was way too late to save himself. If he tried he would make a huge scene that he couldn't afford. As Rosa took him by the wrist he actually felt more than a little fear in his heart. Oh no, oh no, no, no, no, no, no! Had he been any less of a stone wall on an average day he might have whimpered.
Next thing he knew, he was shut in the restroom with them and they all pounced. He had no idea where they were finding all this stuff. But hands were pulling his face, applying make up and other things, they were adding things to his hair, his outfit, his hands, and he couldn't keep track of it all amongst the giggling, and didn't have the first clue of how to make them to stop.
Note to self, if you ever see a pack of women coming your way again Seto, run, run for your life!
By the time he was released, Kaiba had come to the conclusion that this was what a major heart attack was like. Something horrific happening to you that you had no control over and left you inexplicably weak and helpless against its attack. This pack were lethal, and he couldn't help but be glad when it was over. he didn't even dare look in a mirror, he was terrified of what he would see.
All he was certain of now was that he was blinking far more than he was used to because of the weight of the false lashes, his lips tasted of something fruity and were sticky, and there had been an awful lot of flowers involved. Daisies it seemed as he looked at his hands. Kami-sami what had he gotten himself into.
He took a deep breath. Now where was that champagne, after that terrifying experience he most definitely needed a drink.... or several... probably lots...
Pegasus was currently resisting the urge to go off and hide somewhere in his own home from the throngs of giggling lolitas that had taken it over. He was at best amused by their overly cute gestures and over the top frills, but the whole party atmosphere was starting to wear on him. Duelist Kingdom was his Island sanctuary and it grated on him to have it overrun by strangers.
He forced himself to go and check on Ziegfried in the ballroom to make sure he was having a good time. There were people here not wearing frills, but they were still the usual socialites that had always bored Pegasus to death. He always had an eye out for business rivals and potential networking but there was nothing major on his radar today.
The silver haired man stayed quietly off to the side of the lively group that surrounded the younger CEO. He was bruised under his hair and make-up and somewhat self conscious in front of the younger? ladies, and not really in the mood to steal attention away from Ziegfried on his special day.
by now Kaiba had located drink, consumed a few glasses, and was feeling a little drunk. This made this whole situation far more tolerable. He had managed to sidle closer to Zeigfried's core group. Pegasus hovering nearby, trying to keep out of line of sight of them, but get within hearing distance of them all. he was currently fighting with the blonde bangs of his wig that kept falling in his eyes. They were annoying. In any case, he had a decent spot from which to watch, and listen to the conversation.
Zeigfried was laughing happily with the young ladies surrounding him, they giggling at his jokes, and he was fairly drunk himself. He smiled at pegasus as he lingered.
"And here is our host. Thank him won't you ladies for being so very kind to me. I am afraid I shall remain in your debt for this wonderful evening. Quite the soiree. However am I going to thank you?"
"There's no need to thank me dear boy. It's your birthday after all, and you and your lovely friends are welcome here any time. It's I who should be thanking you for bringing such colour and life to my lonely little island for a day
