Brandon and I are in the student center and I think we should have come to this spot more often. We're on the second floor on the couches by the piano and so far two lovely gentleman have played. Every time I see someone sit down and play it makes me wish I had made an effort to learn when I was a kid. But alas, I never did anything for more than a year before I wanted to do something else. I vaguely remember my mom having my brother try and teach me but I didn't really go for it. I was in dance for two years though, until they made me dance to that awful achey breakey heart country song. Even as a kid I knew the majority of country music was evil and I wanted no part of it, so I quit. Anyways whatever he is playing right now is really beautiful.
In other news, my chalk pictures are on my facebook in an album. They are extremely contrasty but I kind of like it. They are this way because the chalk drawings themselves would not show up with normal toning.
The Russian animation was great. One in particular stands out. A man in an office was called in by his boss to talk. The boss told him to tell a man that the cashier had arrived. The boss told him which direction to go until he found him and that it was very important to keep going in that direction. So the man walked through construction zones, playgrounds, and across mountains looking for this man. Everyone he met he asked "Have you seen Sidorov? The cashier has arrived?" Eventually he ends up back at the office after walking around the Earth to report to his boss and he shrugs which I take as him not finding Sidorov. His journey took days. Then it says "he feels fine, ready to perform any task at all that is the problem." Russians are hardcore.
You can watch it here.
http://video.aol.com/video-detail/there-lived-kozyavin-andrei-khrjanovsky-1966/1155861300 As far as comparing it to the Yugoslavian films, I think I liked the Russians more but I can't say anything negative about the Yugoslavian.
Nothing else has really happened. Brandon and I went to that guy's memorial tree planting ceremony today. It was pretty depressing. Despite being finals week a large amount of people showed up including our college's dean, the university chancellor and other important people. That saddest people who spoke was a friend of Ryan's from back home who had known him since they were 12. He didn't speak long, I don't think he could have without totally losing it. The saddest though was a guy who didn't know him. When Ryan got in the accident he was on his way to shoot of photo of this guy's dying granddaughter. (Which he didn't need to since they could have provided a photo but he wanted to personally do the photo despite it being in Nashville.) So the grandfather of came all the way to Carbondale for the memorial and it was really depressing. It was a nice service thing though, they played Bob Dylan and planted a redbud.
On a lighter note, I am full of coffee. I also figured out how to put animation into my video for Fern's class despite not knowing how to use Final Cut Pro before this semester. (And I didn't learn any of it from Fern!) If I hadn't learned how to use animation my grade would be fucked so this is pretty exciting for me. I am also excited to be coming home this weekend and see all sorts of important people. I think that's all.
Love&Sunshine,
