I am building said ark because it is monsoon season in Carbondale and we have multiple warnings of flash flooding. Brandon had to go to a city council meeting today for class. At this meeting the Mayor mentioned that this was flood awareness week and the weather was appropriate. The mayor also mentioned that this was the most rainfall in one day in the past 10 or 15 years.
I only had one class but failed to notice the hole in my polka dot rain boots before going. The liner was still intact though so it wasn't too bad, When I got back to the dorm I put some duct tape on it and it is working leak-free now. My one class was Film in the 3rd Reich though so I didn't mind going. Today we watched a Nazi movie on the concentration camp Theresienstadt which was in Czech Republic. The movie was staged to make it look like the Jews were living in some sort of resort with plays, music, food, good jobs, and happy leisure time. It was a bit ridiculous. It was made for outside countries but was ineffective since news of what really went on in the camps had been public at that point. We then watched an anti-German propaganda film from America called Here is Germany. It basically started out showing how the German people are like us, working hard, having entertainment and the such. Then it told us how they were really evil because they let the concentration camps happen. It also went on for a ridiculous few minutes about Germans goose stepping everywhere. Our professor then assured us that she did not goose step her way over here which was amusing. I also got my paper back in that class. I didn't think it was a very good paper but she gave me an 100% so I was pretty happy.
Nothing else really happened today. I went to the library as the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floor are now open. It looked pretty nice I guess but I prefer libraries to be old and wood looking inside, our library is decidedly modern. There are small rooms you can rent out for group study which is pretty cool. It's a much better alternative for group projects than meeting at the Starbucks in the student center. They also had some reception snacks out since it was an open house. They had some nachos and little soft pretzel bites that were warmed up, wonderful choices. They also had that fake champagne punch that involves ginger ale and ice cream which I have always really liked.
That's about all but on a side note I think I forgot to mention in an earlier post, my Subway was a cardboard cut-out of Jared. It is life-size and scares the shit out of me. I'm fighting over it with my manager. I pointed out that there are 2 sides and we should both get one.
Love & Sunshine,
