Maybe Kevin Smith should consider his seatmates while ranting about being told he could not fly without purchasing two seats. I totally understand that the man was humiliated for being basically kicked off a Southwest flight when he was deemed too heavy to only have one seat. I also understand the anger that must come with it. And the fact that

I don't think you and I are too far distant on this. I don't think it's unreasonable for people who physically take up two seats to have to purchase two seats. In this area, I would like to see some definite standards set. I think that most people, if given the rules, will play by them. Or they'll choose another airline. SW claimed it was about armrests and belts. Then they violated their own policy. Personally, I think a Christian stewardess saw Dogma and is still pissed off.
As for the "stand-by" situation, that is horseshit according to Smith. He indeed did not expect to be on that particular flight. That's because he'd booked another one on which he'd purchased THREE seats because he expected to be traveling with both his wife and a business companion. On that one, he was booted after a stewardess told him the pilot had deemed him too heavy to be on the aircraft at all. When in fact, the pilot had never had a chance to see him. They diverted him to another flight (which makes no sense at all if he's too fat to fly) and that's when the media started to pay attention.
I don't argue that people who don't fit into one seat shouldn't be required to purchase two. I'm saying Kevin Smith got fucked over. I'm not making a broad argument here. That's why I said PC doesn't have to be a part of this. SW looks so fucking terrible right now. Seriously, some SW employee is still pissed about Dogma.
