So here are my thoughts... The Pope is in Africa and making statements that he reaffirms the church's band on condoms and that condoms are not the solution to Africa's AIDS crisis.
Let's face it, thousands upon thousands of highly educated people believe that the church's teachings are the truth whether logic tells them otherwise. If the church states the earth is only 6,000 years old then it's only 6,000 years old.
As a side note, whenever I hear this I think, "What about the dinosaurs?" Well, the church offers several possibilities. My favorite, they were killed in the flood because Noah's 450'x75' arc could only hold baby dinosaurs and there was no room for the full-grown adult dinosaurs and that dinosaurs still exist today in very remote parts of the world (such as Guatemala).
Thankfully for the sake of logic and reason usually the higher educated the person is, the more he or she is apt to allow logic and reason win over the church's fairy tales and propaganda.
Every single day we are reminded what a terrible influence the church is and the damage it has, is or will cause. I'm not the leading expert on Africa or third world education but I believe it is safe to assume the pope's audience isn't highly educated and strongly believes in things such as Noah's arc, talking bushes, the Garden of Eden, etc, etc. And now, we have the Pope telling Africans and whomever else will listen that condoms are not the solution to the AIDS crisis. I would honestly love to hear what he believes is the solution.
