“You ready, Jack?” Hotch asked his son as he zipped up the boy’s coat.

“Yeah!” He wasn’t just ready, he was eager, already almost running outside without proper attire twice. “Can we go now?”

“Not yet, you need your scarf,” Hotch insisted despite the boy’s sigh in, well, the annoyance and impatience small boys who wanted to play but had to wait generally have.

Morgan popped his head in from out back, “Hotch, what’s taking so long?”

“I’m getting Jack ready!”

“By the time he’s officially ready the snow’s gonna be melted, man, com’on,” Morgan then watched as the man ignored him in favor of searching the nearby closet for the scarf. The moment Hotch was out of eyeline Morgan smirked some and bent down to Jack, “You ready to go outside?”

“Uh huh.”

“You wanna?”

“What about Daddy?”

“He can catch up, don’t worry.” Morgan assured the boy as he lifted him up onto his hip, “Meet ya outside, Hotch!” he called out before heading out with Jack.

Hotch heard Morgan as he headed back with the scarf and knew, immediately, that Morgan took Jack. He’d pay for that. Hotch threw the scarf over his neck and headed out to find the others. From the balcony Hotch was able to appreciate just how expansive Rossi’s land was. He’d have to thank the man again for opening it up to the team, and to Jack, to spend a little R&R on their time off.

“Don’t even bother to try and figure out how it started,” Rossi’s voice came from a chair at the corner of the porch, “I was here when it did and I can’t even figure it out.”

“Aren’t you cold?” Hotch asked trying not to laugh at his friend as he sat in a chair that was covered in snow with a thermos in his hand.

“I have on snow pants, I’ll be fine,” Rossi said casually before sipping from his thermos, “that and a good, strong drink. Anyway I’ll probably stay warmer and dryer here than down there with them,” he indicated the others with a small gesture of his hand, “trust me, here’s safest.” As if in argument a snowball hit the back of the man’s head with a pfft.

Hotch let out his laugh some, “Would you like to reevaluate your position?”

Rossi gave no reaction a moment, choosing instead to sip from his thermos, before smirking as he reached back to try and shake the snow off. “I suppose I’m going to be part of this thing whether I want to be or not.”

“It would appear so.”

“Then we should give them all a real run for their money, don’t you think?” Rossi gave a wicked grin.

Hotch nodded some, “Absolutely. Just save Morgan for me.”

Rossi laughed some, “Be my guest.” He looked out as if scanning the area before catching sight of Emily pressed against the side of the porch, no doubt hiding after hitting him with the snowball. He moved his hip to bump the banister causing its contents to fall off and, mostly, onto Emily who immediately gave a yelp and jumped up out of her hiding space. “Hello Emily.”

Emily stood before the two men utterly drenched in fast melting snow, “Hi,” she smiled innocently.

Hotch smiled down at her, “Do you happen to know where Morgan might be?” Before Emily could open her mouth Hotch got a response in the form of a freezing ball of powder exploding against his back and then laughter. He turned around quickly to see Jack poking his head up from the bottom of the porch steps.

“He got you, Daddy!” Jack giggled.

“Yes, he did,” Hotch confessed with a smile before going over to lift his son up, “no one got you yet though, did they?”

“Course not, I’m too fast!” Jack announced proudly, “I waited for you, Morgan said I could go hide and throw snowballs with him but I wanted to wait for you.

Hotch smiled, “Thank you for waiting, Jack, that was very nice of you.”

“You’re welcome,” the boy replied happily before smiling, “can we go play with the others now though?”

“Sure.”

“I can show you where the others are,” the boy’s grin turned a little mischievous, “I know where Morgan went too.”

“See, this is one of the things I miss in not having children,” Rossi spoke up with a smile, “the loyalty of a son to his father. There’s nothing that compares to it.”

Hotch simply gave a smile before Jack insisted they go look for everyone else.

“He tackled me!” Morgan exclaimed as he dripped his way into the cabin with the others.

“We heard,” JJ said with a smile as she went to turn on the kettle Rossi had.

“Forget heard, we saw,” Emily laughed.

“I can’t believe it,” Morgan shook his head as he went to remove his coat like the others, “I got tackled! I got tackled by Reid!”

The whole team began to laugh some. “I could do it again,” Reid offered with a touch of smugness, “You know, just so you can get over that initial shock of being owned by a guy half your size.”

“Hey, you didn’t own me kiddo,” Morgan began to posture some, “You just happened to catch me off guard, that’s all.”

“That’s what they all say,” Emily teased her teammate more as she moved to collect everyone’s coat to stuff in the closet.

“Hey, another time, another place, different circumstances and that would’ve never gone down like it did.”

Rossi smirked, “But, as it is, that had to be the single greatest thing to happen at this cabin since my second wife and I -“

“Rossi,” Hotch warned as he followed his team and son into the cabin.

“What?” Jack suddenly looked up curiously, first to his dad and then Rossi.

“Uh…nothing,” Rossi cleared his throat awkwardly, “Nothing is better than Reid tackling Morgan…and nothing ever will be.”

Jack frowned a little in thought knowing the adults were keeping something from him but unsure what and if he should call them on it.

“Jack,” Hotch worked to help his son remove his winter jacket and such, “would you like marshmallows in your hot chocolate?”

Instantly the mystery of what Rossi was going to say was forgotten, “Yeah, can I?!”

“I think so, JJ, there’s marshmallows around, aren’t there?”

“Two bags worth,” JJ said with a smile and nod.

“May I have some too?” Reid asked suddenly excited at the prospect of hot chocolate with marshmallows in it himself.

“I got tackled by a guy who still likes marshmallows in his hot cocoa!” Morgan announced incredulously.

“Well everybody likes marshmallows in their cocoa,” Reid countered with a shrug and a smile.
