so, friday night we had an inaugural party at my house for peter's birthday.  it was a surprise birthday party and everyone dressed up as cowboys.  we led peter to our door and greeted him with a "yee-haw", a bag of cool ranch doritos, and an official "birthday sheriff" cowboy hat. we made guac and salsa for a western treat and had a case of candy cigarettes (which christine ordered from ebay, apparently they are really hard to get) so that all the non-smokers would have packs to roll in their sleeves and could pretend like they were tough hombres, or something.

the police came three times throughout the night, the first of which being the most amusing.  here's an abridged transcript of what happened.

officer:  who lives here?
me:  i do.  my dad owns this place.
officer:  okay, we had a complaint from 183 west maynard.  it wasn't a noise complaint, they said you were causing a disturbance.
me:  (looking around for a disturbance) i don't know.  we're just kind of hanging out smoking.  i can tell everyone to smoke out back.
officer:  yeah, you guys obviously aren't out of control.  (looks at everyone awkwardly) is this a themed party or something?
me:  (slightly embarrassed) uh, yeah...  we're um, dressed as cowboys.
officer: yeah...  (pregnant pause)  well, have a good night.

the tone of his voice said "have a good night, NERDS."  as if to say, you don't have any beer bongs, no one is even doing keg stands or starting any fires.  you think this is a party?  you guys aren't cool. OBVIOUSLY no one is going to get in trouble tonight.

he was back two more times in the night and expressed his annoyance at having to return, and continued to belittle us with such comments as "the same neighbor called, he said the music was too loud, but i can barely hear it,"  and "the only reason we came here again is because when someone calls we have to respond."

but, regardless of what the police thought, the guests seemed to have a real good time, so we're planning another one, hopefully to go down within the next month.

sweet.
