The Worst Night Ever

Oct 15, 2011 04:16

Hello TMI. I have been in this community for a while but have never really felt like I had anything worthy to post. Until tonight. I have had the worst night I have ever had in a very long time. I have had to do things that I never thought I would ever have to do. And all because the toilet in the front bathroom overflowed.

I rent a small two bedroom, two bath house from the people across the street from me. The house is fairly old and has a weird floor plan. Basically on one end of the house there are two bedrooms with a bathroom in between and on the other end there is a living room with another full bath off of it.( This full bath doesn't have a bathtub though, just a large shower.) In between these two areas there is a long room that is supposed to be the kitchen and dining room. There is also a laundry room off of the living room.

Since I've lived in this house (almost three years now) the plumbing has been a little odd. The toilets sometimes clog and take a little plunger action to get them working again. When you are using the washing machine, the pipes to the kitchen sink make gurgling noises when the water is draining from the washing machine. The weirdest though, was after the wax seal for the toilet in the front bathroom was fixed.

After I had that taken care of, the toilet never really refilled with water after it was flushed. It was also very slow and the only way to get the toilet to work properly and flush was to turn on the hot water in the sink. So after every time I used to the toilet, I would flush and then turn on the hot water to wash my hands and all would be well. Except for tonight. Tonight was bad. Oh let me tell you. It was epically, having a panic attack, scarred for life bad.

This story really starts after I had gone poo in the toilet. I went to flush and not much happened. The water went down a little but it was slow and the stuff in the toilet wasn't going down. So I turned on the hot water in the sink and nothing really happened. In fact, it looked like the water in the toilet was going up a little.( At this point I started to panic because I can not handle poo. Like cleaning dirty poo water freaks me out. Especially if there are still poo chunks in it. I can't handle it.) After the tank refilled with water, I tried to flush it again, because usually that will help. Sometimes the toilet doesn't flush all the way and it requires another flush to get the water and stuff to go down. So I held down the handle and flushed, and instead of the water going down like it normally would, the bowl overfilled and nasty poo water with chunks of poo started to flood the bathroom floor. I immediately started freaking out and screaming because it was nasty and like I said earlier, I CAN NOT handle poo. It was especially bad because the front bathroom is also where my cats litter boxes are. So there was poo, poo water, and litter spilled by messy cats that was mixing around on the bathroom floor.

After the water started flooding into the bathroom, I grabbed the plunger and started to plung the toilet like my life depended on it. At first it didn't seem to help, but after a while it looked like some of the nasty that was still in the toilet was slowly going down. I flushed the toilet a few more times and turned on the hot water in the sink a couple times until clear water started to appear in the toilet and then I thought all was well and that I could breathe and then start cleaning the gross stuff on the bathroom floor. So I went and got a bucket and the mop from outside and started filling the bucket with hot water. While I was filling up the bucket, the water on the bathroom floor started moving. Keep in mind. I had already run and gotten a towel so the water wouldn't flow into the living room, so the water should not have been moving. It should have been still. But no, it was moving and there was starting to be more of it. At first, I couldn't figure out where it was coming from, but then I traced the flow and realized it was coming from the shower. Yes. The shower. Holy fuck why is there water coming from the shower?!?!

Well. Dear TMI. I will tell you. Water was coming from the shower because the fucking toilet full of my poo and toilet paper had backed up into the shower. So now the fucking shower was full of dirty poo water and feces.( Cue an even bigger freak out than before.) The reason why the water was flowing out of the shower now was because I had the water on in the sink and some of it was going down the drain. Apparently whatever was clogging the toilet had moved so far down the pipes for that bathroom that it was clogging everything and everything that went down the pipes was backing up into the shower. The shower that has a four inch lip I might add. So basically there was four inches of nastiness swirling around in the shower and about an inch of dirty poo water on my bathroom floor.

In order to clean this nastiness I had to grab a couple towels and let them soak up the poo water on the floor before I could get in there with a mop and broom and scrub and mop the floor with bleach. Then once I could get to the toilet I had to scrub the shit stuck on the outside and rim of the toilet and then scrub the damn thing with bleach as well. Once all of that was done I had to take an old pot that I was planning on throwing away and use it to try and bail out some of the water and fish out some of the toilet paper and shit from the shower. It didn't work out too well so I ended up making a walmart run to buy a huge pack of paper towels and a new broom and mop. By the time I got back the water in the shower had gone down but there was still about an inch and a half of poo and toilet paper stuck to the bottom of the shower, so I placed a bunch of paper towels over the mess to soak up the moisture and then used the broom to kind of sweep everything into a pile so I could pick it up and put it in a trash bag. After I got everything out, I poured about half a bottle of bleach into the shower and then scrubbed it with the broom.

All in all it took me about four hours to clean the bathroom and my house ended up smelling like a sewer. I'm burning a bunch of incense now. I also went
through five pairs of latex gloves and ended up throwing away three towels, a mop, and a broom. My cats litter boxes are sitting in the living room right now and I have to wait until tomorrow morning to go over to the landlords house and get them to get a plumber over here asap. I am scared to do any laundry because I don't know how far down the sewage pipes the clog is. I don't want to risk turning on the washing machine and having the shower flood again. I don't think I'd be able to handle it at this point.

So that's my TMI story and I hope y'all enjoyed it. I hope the landlord can get an emergency plumber out to fix the problem this weekend as well. I certainly don't want to have to deal with this again. I think it scarred me for life.
