Lopping off fingers at a psych hospital

May 07, 2011 14:53

I just remembered my finger story and thought I'd share with the rest of the class. Many years ago (10?), I was working at an adolescent inpatient psych unit. It was kind of old and most rooms had heavy, thick seclusion doors. Kid #1 was standing in the hallway outside Kid #2s door chatting and I guess #1 said something unkind because #2 slammed the door in #1's face.

The problem was that Kid #1 had his fingers in the space between the door and the wall. Smoosh! Two of his fingers were literally hanging by a thread. It was actually quite impressive. He was sent to the ER via ambulance and we were told that they did reattach his fingers, but he never came back to us.
