Not sure if anyone remembers, but I've been dealing with Bartholin gland abscesses since this past July and have posted about them a few times (and even posted my pus-covered gauze from the first one, ha). Well, now they show up every month. I got one on Saturday, and by Sunday night, it was huge. Even the outer labia on that side was swollen and painful. It was so red. It looked like I had stuck a cherry up my vagina or something. It hurt like hell, but I took an extra strength Vicodin and a hot bath and all was well until I fell asleep. I had plans to go to the gyno this morning and get another word catheter inserted (my last one was unsuccessful).
I woke up this morning and rolled over, completely forgetting about my abscess. Suddenly, I remembered, but realized it wasn't hurting. I thought that was VERY odd, since I assumed it would be even worse today. Then, I felt it. My underwear were soaked in some sort of mysterious fluid. I knew I hadn't peed myself, and I just ended my period a few days ago so that wasn't it, either. I took a peak down there while still lying in bed and saw this yellow-ish fluid all in my underwear. Figured it was just discharge and went to the bathroom, when I realized that my abscess had burst in my sleep and drained into my underwear. There was blood, pus, and discharge all in my underwear and on my leg. I squatted in front of a mirror and messed around down there and more pus just leaked out. More and more and more. Went to the gyno today anyway and she drained it a bit more and wants to see me ASAP next time one pops up for more surgery, hooray.
My gyno prescribed me Clindamycin. Anyone had any experience with this antibiotic? I'm really health-paranoid so I looked it up (haven't filled the prescription yet, it was too late today) and found out it's one of the antibiotics that is most associated with c.diff. D: Of course, now I'm terrified to take it. I've been on and off antibiotics (seriously, at least one round per month since June) for ~5 months so I don't want to make things worse. Have any of you taken it without any serious effects?
I was tempted to just not take it (my gyno said my stuff didn't look infected, but she wanted to prescribe it as a precaution to fight off potential bacteria, ugh) but I try and take all the antibiotics that are prescribed to me. I don't mess around with medicine--I go by the doctor. :\ But, possible c.diff? Urg. Am I just being paranoid? Should I just take it? It's 10 days worth of antibiotics, I'm guessing twice a day.
