the most recent tampon post made me have to post my own stupid too_much_info.

So, I've never been able to use tampons. Not because they hurt. Because I bled too heavy. ((So I thought)). My friend never could use them for the same reason. The two of us took solace in pads.

Now, we did this from the time we were about 12 till 21.
And one day, our friend came over and wanted to know why we never used tampons. We explained our problems, and she said something about how the cotton spread out inside you. I was all, "... what?"

It turns out my best friend and I had been doing it wrong all along. We'd been pushing the tampon in with the top half of the plastic part on still, by squeezing and pushing it off the bottom half of the applicator. And it wouldn't absorb blood because the cotton was still in the top half of the plastic.

DUH.

My friend can use tampons now. I still prefer pads. But I was amazed at how stupid I'd been, even though I'd read the instructions. Though, I'd like to argue, at 12, those can be deceiving.

If this isn't TMI, let me know.

((I don't think I've ever posted that last phrase before))

tampons, periods
