Besides the mountain only solemn clouds could be seen,
drifting into place, a northern conference
and you sit here wondering things like,
"Today, will the earth in all its majesty become covered by the sea,
swallowed to feed the ravenous oceans that surround us all and plot
our demise."
of course, then, you remember what your father told you
about the sea
how it rolls along and beats the sand incessantly without progress
and you remember that you don't take stock in all that pish posh
of destinies, of hope, of endless love
because "we are only ephemeral right?"
if we will someday end, so must the earth
or will we return to the clay?
