Hi LJ. Good to see you again. Boy, but I am fuck all getting weary of Facebook, aren't you? Not that I'll be putting it away anytime soon, but still...
I realize how much I missed LJ.
So lets see...when last I left LJ, Shit Kinda Got Real. Things are getting better. Not sure I'm ready to go into much depth on that right now. But suffice it to say, I am in an odd eddy of the storm that has been my life recently, and waiting to see in what direction things go in. It's an odd, strange calm, suffice it to say.
The one thing I've started tonight is watching Jason Scott's documentary "GET LAMP", which is a, to put it bluntly, fucking brilliant piece of work, a decision I have come to after only 30-40 minutes of viewing thus far. It's fantastic, the things that he's managed to document, the way he's done the documenting and given a historical voice to, that were such building blocks of my life, the things that made up my own personal tapestry growing up. The odd, weird part is we sort of know each other over the past 20 years...but we never really got along at all. Mostly because I was a bit of a jerky 17 year old, starting out. It's sad, but it doesn't stop me from just respecting the hell out of his body of work, and the passion and dedication he's made to archiving Geek History, to the point of making it literally his life's work. If you want to support his work, buy GET LAMP or his BBS documentary, or
chip some money his way on Kickstarter for his next passle of projects.
So of course, I'm getting bit by the IF writing bug again. Sadly, between Saga become a Dad (NOT a bad thing in and of itself, of course :) and my continuing servatude towards the awesome that is Max, there isn't much time. Plus, I fear that when we started out with writing Beyond The Cage Of Gold, my own spin and ideas and vision quickly began to subvert his own, which I could get away with as "The Coder"...and I'm only now seeing how kinda disrespectful that was. I should probably apologize to him, since I don't think he does much LiJonification anymore.
I might polish up Blow Out The Candles And Die and submit it somewhere. It's kind of a goofy collection of in-jokes, but I think it's probably amusing to the outsider as well. And since it's mostly done already, it's a good way to get my feet wet in that world, even if it's more of a "toy" than a game. I suppose I should pick up and finish Star Truck too...but again..who knows when I'll really have the time or drive to do so.
Whew. So that's about it for me here. I'll try to make sure this doesn't simply become a once-a-year-event.
