Well, that didn't go like I thought it would.
Because of some scheduling conflicts at work, the last three days were supposed to be my official vacation, when I could lay around the house, drink to excess, and play video games. Lazy and unmotivated, I know, but that's all I wanted to do. Yeaaaah, didn't quite work out that way.
Phyllis also took that time off, which meant that we were pretty much together all three days. Which isn't the problem I swear, but it did mean I had less time for myself and had to spend more time doing "us" stuff. In fact, I think I played games once, maybe twice. And now I'm back to work today and tomorrow, and then Monday and Tuesday before Phyllis and I are off again for Christmas. I dunno, the timing of my days off is...well, off, and that's leaving me cranky and bothered. I assumed they would give us the last two weeks off again like they did last year, but they didn't, so now I'm paying for it. What else is new.
Anniversary was Tuesday. Three years. Just so happens that was also the day we got bitchslapped with a blizzard, which subsequently sent drivers up and down the state into a primal state of fear which lasted well into the night. Trips that would normally take drivers 30-50 minutes were all of the sudden now two hours or more. I should know, we were right in the middle of it.
We left the house around 2:45-3:00 to go to a fancy restaurant in Schaumburg and it ended up taking us 3 hours just to pull into Rolling Meadows.
Three. Hours.
On top of that, Phyllis had a Christmas party for her choir group the same night that she did not want to miss, so that cut our anniversary time down even more. By the time we got into Rolling Meadows, I think the trip had taken so much out of us that we just mutually gave up. So we celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Portillos and a party with a room full of 50 year olds. It bugged me. I don't think we've ever had a good anniversary yet...something always happens to interfere with our plans. Part of me just wants to stop trying. Ugh.
On the upside though, I'm going to Roman's this weekend for our yearly (yeah, we pretty much only get to see each other once a year now, and that's incredibly sad) get together. If all goes well, I'll get to sleep over there and hang out in DeKalb, which I'm really looking forward to. It's always fun to sit down at the table with him, drink sake, and discuss all thing pop culture. There aren't many people that I can have those kinds of intelligent conversations with, but he is easily the finest amongst them.
Bought a bluetooth headset for the PS3 yesterday, so now I can game online with Nikolai so that'll be fun. I'm *hoping* to buy the wireless adapter for 360 sometime this week. If and when I do, I'll pick up Left 4 Dead so we can survive the zombie apocalypse together. Should be fun!
