EASY COME, EASY GO

Auditions have come and gone, and I did not get either of the leads that I was hoping for, so I passed on the show. Eh, shit happens, right?

HOTT called me on Saturday and said they noticed that I only put the two leads on my sheet, but wondered if I would be open for anything else because they had something in mind for me. Honestly, I wasn't interested, and I told them as much. I wanted to do the show to play one of the leads, not a bit part in the chorus. Why should I have to accept anything less? So I simply said "thanks anyway, but I only wanted one or the other", and that was it.

This was to have been my (real) last show with HOTT, but since it fell through, I think I'll leave it at that and move on to other pursuits. HOTT was fun when I needed something to do and people to meet, but jesus, I'm almost 30...time to get on with life, y'know? Odd postscript: Phyllis DID accept a small part in the show, which really surprised me since she's been going back and forth and whether or not she'd do this since, oh, we first knew about it! I think she just didn't want to feel left out while all our friends were doing this, and that a little something was better than nothing. Again, totally cool, but I can't help but feel like it won't be long before she starts complaining about it ad nauseum. But such is the life, so I'll do my part and listen attentively.

Flicked Jumper over the weekend and was pretty disappointed. The effects and idea were both great, but there was only the thinnest plot to string them to, which made for some incredibly dull fucking "entertainment". Now that I think about it, the plot was basically a weak rehash of Highlander, only instead of Highlanders and Watchers, you have Jumpers and Paladins. Yep. Damn, that was exactly it. There's this limp dick story about how Paladins are relgious zealots that have been killing Jumpers throughout the ages because they hate and fear their existence, or something. And then there's this bit about how the main character gets caught up in this "war" (war, really? How can this be possible when we only saw 2 Jumpers and 3 Paladins? What, is everyone else dead or something?) and then the rest of the movie concerns itself with the main character abusing his powers to rob banks, travel to exotic locations, and basically do whatever the hell he pleased. Which is fine, god knows I'd probably do the same thing if I had those powers, but it doesn't make for an entertaining visual experience, y'know? 2 stars. Skip it.

That said, Death Race hit theatres this Friday and I am sooooooooo excited for that...thanks for bringing it to my attention, Roman! I think dad and I might see that one together, unless Phyl wants to go to see Swearengen.

Oh, weird story: out of the blue last week mom called *begging* me and Phyllis to go to her boyfriend's 60th birthday party yesterday. To put this into perspective, she's probably been dating him for about 4 years now, and this is the FIRST time she's ever asked us to something like this, although Danielle has apparently gone out eating and drinking with them on a sumber of occasions now. We went out of curiosity more than anything and, to be fair, it wasn't as bad as we'd feared. But still, we were both annoyed that after FOUR YEARS we are just now being invited to do things with them. Mom has complained to Dad that "we don't like her" (we don't) and "we never spend time with her" (not if we can help it) but when she doesn't bother to speak to us or, call me crazy, see if we'd like to do something, what does she expect? Eh, whatever.

Finally got paid today (oh yeah, last story: Enesco's bank, Wells Fargo, had a glitch in their system that resulted in all employees with direct deposit not getting paid on Friday. For a few fleeting moments, nightmares of The Birthday I Did Not Get Paid came rushing back to me. However, they processed all the payments on Friday and the payments showed up in our accounts today, so it's all good.) so I think I'm going to use some comission to place an amazon order, as I've been dying to try Metal Gear 4. Hoping for a quick week, expecting anything but.
