Eventful weekend
Well, so much has happened this weekend and it was quite stressful. But, it all pales in comparison the hardest news of the weekend. Amy's mom's cousin passed away due to a heart attack and is the same age as Amy's mom. I only met him once, I believe, but I know it's still rough on Amy's family and especially her mom's family.
Then, I got some equally bad news Saturday morning from Greg. The mother of a senior trumpet player in band passed away in a tragic car accident on Saturday morning. She was going out to buy flooring to redo their basement. She was going for her cell phone, lost control and slammed into a median. She wasn't wearing her seatbelt. I know this student. What a shame for this kid. I can't imagine how he must feel. Two days before school starts for his senior year, his mom is gone. An interesting side note is that Greg and I pulled this kid in on Thursday to fuss about missing a rehearsal for a church gig. We had no problem with doing the church gig, but he was gone for four hours for a 10 minute gig. On top of that, he was seen smoking. So Greg told him he was going to call his parents and let them know. Fortunately, he never got around to making that phone call. I am so glad that one of the last interactions this mother and son had did not have to be dealing with shit from school. Life's precious.
School starts tomorrow. I'm a bit excited, but for band people, the first day of school is never as big a deal since we've been doing stuff for a full month prior. I went on a crazy clothes washing, ironing, organizing spree. Pretty excited about the new ties I got from Steve and Barry's. They had a few preppy ties that should look pretty classy.
