Well.

I have a job! I am working in the Lakota School District this fall. I will be taking over in January for the gentleman who is retiring this December. For the fall, I will be in a myriad of positions including a band director at the freshman school, an intervention specialist at the freshman school, and the assistant marching band director at Lakota West High School (10-12).
After the group goes to Midwest, I will take over as Head Director at the Freshman School and Assistant at Lakota West. That's right, 6 periods of band a day. Band, Band, Band, Band, Band, Band. No Fine Arts, no guitar!
As for the "Intervention Specialist" position for the fall, I will be coordinating a new program that is being started to reach underachieving students. According to the new principal, the demographics in the area are changing, and the school must reach students that aren't getting what they need. So, I'll be in charge of identifying students with problems, establishing personal relationships with them, and then taking necessary action whether it be finding a tutor, finding a counselor, kicking them in the butt, whatever. I can honestly say that after completing my masters degree, I welcome this opportunity. I see it as an opportunity to further study the interpersonal communication that exists between students and teachers. I will most likely document my experiences in a journal.
I have decided what I would like to start studying on my own to lead up to possible PhD focus in interpersonal communication in education. As part of my masters research project, I discovered an emerging phenomenon of what I called a "cyclical relationship" between teacher and students. I might be able to use this time as "Intervention Specialist" to study this relationship in one-on-one case studies.

Goals for summer (I will update and rewrite this many times:
1. Learn the shit out of Skysplitter (piece for YCMP)
2. Learn the shit out of William Byrd Suite (also YCMP)
3. Condense my master's project experience into a short article and submit to Instrumentalist, MEJ, Teaching Music
4. Lose 10-15 pounds
5. Find, paint, move into new apartment
6. Write drill for Moeller High School (Las Vegas show)

Off to study for Wind Lit final. So hard to motivate for the last final.
