Trying to reason with the tornado season

got an IM from a friend in Florida friday. then a text message from Italy monday. seems the world knows about our rash of tornadic storms the past few days.

it started thursday night. got slammed by 2 storms that ripped across the area. then, after all was quiet on sunday afternoon 3 more storms came thundering through. and yet another one around 10 or 11 sunday night.

i don't think there were many injuries, but one fatality in this area.

reminds me of the one that almost killed my brother and me back in 1990. we were at a party, and i was a little less than sober (ok, a lot less than sober) and a storm was rolling in.

i remember sitting on the porch of greg's house watching the lightening flash from one purple cloud to the next when we saw a friend's dog in front of his house across the street. so we knocked on the door to see if anyone was home, but there wasn't. so we took the dog back to greg's to stay out of the storm. by the time we got back across the street, i swear, lightening hit the tree the dog was just under.

then greg wanted to get rid of all the empties before his dad came home so my brother (who didn't drink) and i took my truck to get rid of any party evidence.

it wasn't yet raining so the weather was beautiful and i rode in the back of the truck. on the way back it started pouring rain. and the wind was blowing the shit straight sideways. so while driving down the road, i am crawling in the window of the door.

we pulled into a parking lot for some shelter and the wind was blowing the truck so hard we almost flipped over so we took off, this time me behind the wheel. we went flying through town stopping for nothing. there was an old woman in front of us who stopped at a red light. since there were no other cars, i passed her on her right cut in front of her making a left turn and never slowed down. then when we got into our neighborhood, i hit a puddle of water so big that the truck took a lung full and died. we wound up running the remaining 2 blocks home in blinding rain and tree limbs falling around us. at one point we hit water knee deep and i lost a shoe but never thought of slowing down.

and guess what... as i type this, there is another tornado warning in effect. so i will have to post my cloud pics another time.
