Hey Kids,
No this isn't really an update so much as me abusing a forum to promote a cause. Most of you I will e-mail closer to the date about this but I also wanted to get it out there so you guys can make annoucements in your classes or just circulate this thing anyways because its super important. This message is basically brought ot you by my job at the Sustainability Office where I am project coordinator for Rewire which puts my desk next to the lovely Carlene....the lady running BikeChain. The bottom line is: vote for this and I will be your friend and maybe scheduel you for a date on one of three days that i don't work in March...woot woot....don't vote and you will continue to choke on exhaust fumes. Even if you don't bike (like me) this is still UBER important for U of T.
Do you want to do a small thing that will make a HUGE difference?
Do you want to see free bike repair and educational services available to all students on a sustainable basis?
Vote YES for Bikechain/UTERN on March 7,8,9.
It's all up to you, whether we see the continuation of the great services of Bikechain, or whether they disappear next year. In case you're not aware, Bikechain is a free bike repair and education centre in the basement of the International Student Centre. It is run by students, for students and is supported by the Sustainability Office. If you have a bike, or are interested in getting one, Bikechain can help you, we have a fully equipped repair shop with helpful volunteers on staff every day. We also host weekly workshops on safety, maintenance and repairs..
Even if you don't ride a bike, Bikechain is important because it educates people on active transportation, aiming to reduce unhealthy driving habits and ultimately reduce emissions. Voting for Bikechain is also like voting for cleaner air, mitigating climate change and reducing traffic congestion!
EVERY VOTE COUNTS! at U of T we have a traditionally low voter turnout, and the Bikechain referendum has to be decided by a minimum of 5% of the population.
