Florida sucks a little bit more now

Last Saturday night marked the very final night of operation for "The Adventurer's Club" in Pleasure Island at Walt Disney World. Actually, it was the last night of business for Pleasure Island, period, as Team Rodent plans to turn that whole area into more bullshit "Downtown Disney" overpriced shops and restaurants. Blecch.

But nobody gives a shit about stupid dance clubs closing. It's The Adventurer's Club everyone hated to see go. For the last few weeks, it's been stuffed past capacity (and during the off-season to boot!) just accommodating all the hardcore Disney fans who wanted to experience it one last time. And Disney top brass says places like this "aren't popular" anymore. Feh. Alas, Marissa and I didn't get the chance to visit it during our Disney World honeymoon in January '07 (we were always too exhausted after a full day of park-walking), and we'll always be sorry we missed it.

Jim Hill has some reminiscences of the club's final days here, here, here, and here. And of course, here's Emil Bleehall performing his beautifully geeky rendition of Jonathan Coulton's "The Future Soon," a song which, I'm told, was performed at the Adventurer's Club's very last show, ever:
