This story starts out with the fun fact that I was buying a book for my brother online. He wanted to buy a book entitled, "The Game," which is a self-help book on picking up women and getting them into bed. Not only is it funny that he wants to read a book, he wants this kind of book. Anyways, he wanted to get it from Books-A-Million, but I wouldn't let him because he would overpay. So, I offered to order it for him from Amazon since he doesn't have an account and didn't want to open one because I don't know maybe he's still not sure about online transactions or something. Who knows?
In order to get the free shipping with Amazon, I needed to buy at least five more dollars with of merchandise. I know, it's ass-backwards thinking, but I just got a cheap book. Anyways, while searching on Amazon's top 100 list, I can say that at least 60 of those books were self-help books on either eating better, thinking happier thoughts, or living a better life. Unfortunately, The Secret is still on the top 100, but it is currently at number 100, so here's hoping it gets knocked off soon. I just don't understand why we, as a people, need other people to tell us how to feel better about ourselves. True, we may make bad decisions with our eating habits...I'll be the first one to admit to that. However, I just don't like how we need to look to other people who feel they know the secret to a happy life. Every individual is just that: a unique individual with unique needs and desires for a happy life. I've actually ordered one of these books while in college and dealing with a deep depression, and I threw the book out after about three chapters. If I followed the directions of this book, and it would only work if I followed everything to a "T," I was supposed to achieve true happiness. If you have to follow a program to become happy, you'll never be happy because you won't be able to live your life the way you want to live it.
Just some random thoughts running through my over-sized head. Enjoy.
