Stupid: According to the Oxford, "dazed and unable to think clearly."
Same word root as stupor.
In principle & practice, I'm for conversations, interactions, politics, people, rhetoric, drugs and issues that decrease this element in our lives.
How did we get so separated from the results of our choices. I always thought that's what choices were for - the results...
Minority governments historically do not last long in this country. Independents agree to broad principles, enjoy the moment of sunshine & then want it again next week. Those who now have the power want that moment of sunshine to be brief & find themselves with a vote of no confidence gun to their head every other day. Historically, they call the bluff. Historically that's a dumb mistake... The other side try & are just as surprised when we repeat the plot. IE; political parties believe in themselves more than the public does & more than they believe in mandate...
Election post mortem is about the seats & local events that make the politics local. Why isn't it about the policies, the values - the ideas & how they went over? Sure look @ where, the other 'whats' - but only so that we can get a lot closer to the 'whys'. The 'whys' that are more than just a talking head opinionfest. ...We have blogs for that. The 'whys' are what you get from thinking. The 'whys' where the rewards are.
When did we start trusting other people's opinion on cause & effect? In politics!
I'm more bothered that a majority of people want the emissions to be dropped 50% in 15 years but no higher costs, harsher border security with more compassion, a stronger economy - with better leave & entitlements, more services with lower taxes, gay marriage for all but only for men & women and a Labor government that doesn't behave like a Labor government.
When ideas & outcomes are de-emphasised, choices are less effective.
Its one reason why I say that the government we deserve argument is a bit more complicated than we think.
*Sigh*
