i tried to reply to this twice a few days ago and both times my entry got deleted! but basically what i was saying is, even when the disney girls start off with a lot of spunk, it almost seems patronizing to me. because by the end of the movie, what really matters, and what really brings them happiness, is just finding a man. the moment when jafar makes his little silent wives remark is actually earlier in the movie where it is really almost unnoticable, and i know a single line, or a single movie isn't going to scar a kid. but i do think growing up with the notion pounded into your head that what really matters in the end is finding a husband is detramental. i also recently watched anastasia (this cartoon watching is getting embarrassing to admit to) and i really liked her; she was a tomboy, she wore baggy clothes, she had SHORT hair, she was sarcastic, she had dreams, etc etc. i couldn't wait to find out what kind of princess she would be. instead, halfway through the movie, they put her in a pretty dress where she is suddenly rail thin, her hair magically and unexplaninably grows a foot, the boy in the movie ONLY now falls in love with her, and she never again says anything witty or spirited or tough, shes just as demure and boring as cinderella. it just irks me.

that's very true..regardless of how independent they seem, every disney girl ends up with a husband. you shouldn't be embarrassed to watch cartoons, i love them! my favorite disney movie was always mulan, she was free-spirited and awesome [though the society she lives in is overtly sexist, i think she's great because she fools all the men and ends up saving them]..but i'm sure i could find something horrible in it if i were to watch it again. [though i'd hope not].

watch home movies. :) it's been my favorite lately.
