Frank pulled his knees up to his chest and felt the hole in the knee of his jeans rip more, he looked up at Pete and smiled. “How’s Patrick?

Pete smiled back, “brilliant, you know I thought that after a few years the sex would get boring.”

Frank laughed. “Obviously you had never met Gerard at that stage.”

“Well I’ve never slept with him.”

“And never will.” Frank said rather darkly. “But I could tell when I met him, that for as long as I knew him I would never get bored with him.”

“And you maintained that you were straight for how long?”

Frank laughed and looked up to where Adam was talking to Gerard. “Well after he gave me a blowjob.”

I put up my hand. “Younger brother/great grandson, and man that sounds odd… like wow…”

Pete just laughed and pushed closer to Frank so that they were side by side pressed together. “You know what I just realised? Gee never went to high school.”

I laughed. “Yeah, actually he did, he went for two years while I was there because I was getting beaten up, kind of to divert attention. Mum and Dad told me he was my brother who had grown up in Italy with relatives that I had never met, but heard of. I thought, well, you can’t make shit like that up, it must be true. I was only young after all.”

Frank hummed. “Bet he was never shoved in lockers.”

I shook my head. “He just got punched a lot.”

Pete however stared at Frank. “You were shoved in lockers? Oh baby, my poor, poor baby.” He then launched himself at Frank and they two proceeded to roll around on the floor play fighting.

Gerard looked over and laughed, before coming over and prodding me with his boot. “Smoke, coming?”

I nodded and dusted off my sweat-drenched jeans.

Outside they clung worse. Sometimes I wondered why we let Gerard head the aesthetic side of the band when he had no concept of hot.

Gerard lit up before handing me one of his. “Walk?”

I nodded. “What’s up?”

Gerard stared at the pavement as it passed beneath him before looking up. “Shit!” He broke off into a run and I looked up, wonder, what had caused the freak out.

Then I saw her. I ran too.

“Lily!” Gerard climbed up next to the girl perched on top of the bridge, staring down at the shallow stream in amongst rocks far too far down to make landing comfortable.

“Go away Gee.”

I stood back stunned as I watched him climb up next to her, both were sitting on the very edge, feet dangling, hands braced against the opposite edge. One push and they’d be dead, or wishing they were.

“You jump, so do I.”

My mouth opened on it’s own, and yes, I know it’s freaky thinking about your father committing suicide, or attempting, but he has for reasons before, and this time was for a friend, and that would be by far the best way, I think. But I couldn’t say anything to dissuade him, or anything at all.

Lily turned her head so fast it was scary. “No! You have so much to live for.”

“So do you.”

“Don’t lie to me Gerard.”

“Why would I? You have something to live for and the only thing that this will do is prevent you from finding it.”

“No, you have Frank and…”

“I didn’t always have him, so trust me, this solves nothing, it just spreads the pain.”

“But… No one will care if I go.”

“I will, and so will Frank, and Jamia, and Kat and Edward will miss their aunt.” Gerard smiled. “Besides, you can’t jump, I’m planning on asking Frank to marry me tonight and I need another bridesmaid because Frank will want millions of grooms men.”

Lily sniffed.

“And you still haven’t met Adam and most of the band. I mean Mikey hasn’t even met you.” He looked back at me. “Mikey, this is Lily, one of the most beautiful women in the world.”

She turned back and looked at me, eyes wide like a deer in proverbial headlights, mascara running down her face and make up smudged everywhere. She looked like the mess that she was, but she had this wild beauty about her, her hair hung in a mess around her face and her lips were red from biting her lip.

I climbed up on the other side of her. “Nice to meet you. Frank wont shut up about how awesome you are, you know and I think Adam’s getting a little annoyed that he can’t meet this awesome woman, thinks Frank and Gerard are keeping you all to themselves just because they don’t want you to date so they have a permanent babysitter.”

Lily smiled. “They still have Jamia, she glares at most guys that approach her.”

I snorted, it was ridiculously true.

Gerard grinned at me. “So you going to come in?”

“I can’t, you know I get nervous around new people.”

“Why?”

Gerard’s questions was so blunt it was obvious that it was not the first time he had asked that, nor did he expect an answer.

He got one.

“Everyone I meet dies.”

Gerard smiled sadly. “Ditto Lily, ditto, but everyone dies and you can’t cut yourself off from the world because of pain.”

Lily shrugged. “But it’s my fault.”

Gerard took a deep breath of a new cigarette. “I bet my death won’t be your fault, these will cause it.”

She looked at him carefully. “What will I owe you?”

Gerard shook his head. “Make sure Frank has a nice burial, a nice resting spot.”

Yeah, that’s exactly what he said, like he knew exactly that Frank would out live him and then thought that Lily would out like Frank in turn, and she’s sitting there about to commit suicide.

“How will he die?”

Lily’s eyes were wide and curious.

Gerard closed his eyes sadly. “A broken heart more than likely.”

Lily nodded “And Jamia?”

Gerard shrugged. “Do you really want to know?”

She shook her head. “When will she settle down.”

“When she’s approached by a guy who respects her and is thinking about how gorgeous she looks.”

Lily smiled. “Can I curl up next to Frank in a corner if I go in?”

Gerard nodded, “sure, after you let me introduce you to two more people.”

Lily smiled and Gerard jumped gracefully back onto the bridge and helped Lily back over. She released his arm, kicked a crack and somehow landed on her butt. Gerard smiled softly and helped her to her feet before leading her back inside. He lead her straight to the corner containing Frank and Pete. I grinned, realizing.

“Hey guys look who’s come to join us, Pete, this is Lily, Lil, this is Pete Wentz.”

Lily’s jaw dropped.

“Talk to them, while I go find Adam.”

“Gerard!” I could see her nails digging deeply into his arm and I still don’t, to this day, know how he managed not to wince.

“You said two people.” He grinned at her and she threw herself onto the padded floor in defeat.

Frank grinned at her. “How you feeling?”

She glared at him. “Like Gerard just cast a spell on me with his words, creating a nice soft bubble and blew me out to sea to pop above a shark.”

Frank giggled. “One word.”

“Disenchanted.”

Frank nodded. “’I spent my high school career spat on a shoved to agree, so I could watch all my heroes sell a car on tv, bring out the old guillotine, we’ll show them what we all mean…’”

“I know that song.”

“But do you know we’re not in high school any more.” Frank smiled. “You’re stuck with me, until death do us part my dear.”

“That’s what I’m afraid of.”

Pete grinned. “I like her, can I keep her?”

“Will Patrick like it?”

Pete frowned. “I should have that tattooed on the inside of my eyelids…”

Lily giggled, just a little.

“But yes, he will love for me to have another little red head to dote on, says I have too much energy and that he needs to lend me out more. Personally, I just think he needs to fuck me more often, but apparently buses aren’t appropriate.” He rolled his eyes. “Of course they are, it’s not like we share one, we could have crazy, hot sex any time we want and no one would know the difference but no…”

I had to laugh, because someone may have made that suggestion to Patrick and Pete came on less visits, which for some reason equated to me getting more time with your aunty.

“And we needed to know that why?”

Mikey shrugged, glancing over at the bed where Frank was tucked, snoring softly, surrounded by pillows and an electric blanket to simulate warmth. “You needed to know how brilliant your fathers were… are. I mean, Gerard saved Lily’s life and probably countless others, and Frank saved my love life and marriage in one.”

Edward grinned. “Aww…”

Frank stirred and they all looked up at him. His lips were moving and Mikey lent forward to listen. His eyes closed. He straightened and repeated the words he had heard millions of times. “Now will it matter after I'm gone?”
