Character/Pairings: Wooyoung | Nichkhun
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Nichkhun received a package from a friend he had not seen for over a year. He's just not sure how to take it all in.
Author's Note: This bares similarities to a book some of you may have read. I'm not going to mention the book because if you haven't read it, you'd want to check it out. Then, my story wouldn't be as good. It's a really good book, though. This is part of a series. Unlike all the other stuff I've written (and deleted), I will continue this.
http://tonictristan.livejournal.com/3030.html Nichkhun removed the disc from the DVD tray and placed it inside its plastic case. He threw it in the pile of other DVDs, contemplating on whether or not to watch the rest of the videos again.
Inside, he was dying.
Seeing Wooyoung again, even just onscreen, made him weak. There was something about him that made Nichkhun lose his own strength. Strength of what kind or for what purpose? Nichkhun was not sure.
Nichkhun thought about it. Nichkhun thought about it, hard.
It was probably because he knew Wooyoung was dead. He had been dead for a few days now. Nichkhun was, at least, sure of that.
Everyone told him. Everyone made sure to tell him of the tragedy. Everyone made sure to tell him his bestfriend died. Was Wooyoung really his bestfriend? Nichkhun started to doubt things.
They were only in the same honors classes for their last year in high school. Sure, they knew each other before they were classmates, before they started to really talk. And sure, they did get along exceptionally well for two people who've only been seatmates in class for two months before the class moderator changed the seating arrangement. Did that really earn Wooyoung for him and him for Wooyoung the title of bestfriend? Nichkhun was not sure.
Wooyoung was talking to him through recorded material, it seemed a little creepy. That was probably it. That was probably the reason. There you go.
But, something inside him told him that, that wasn't it. That wasn't a good enough reason for him to feel the way he was feeling, given the memories he had made with the boy, given the feelings he had felt for him. It surely went beyond that, beyond the whole concept of Wooyoung reaching out to him after he killed himself.
What exactly was the reason? Nichkhun was not sure.
He grabbed the case with a ONE in black marker.
Why exactly was he putting himself through all this painful shit? Nichkhun was not sure.

The camera was directed facing Wooyoung. He was dressed his upperclassmen uniform. Nichkhun remembered the warm three-piece top and navy blue shorts they wore in high school. From what Nichkhun could see on screen, Wooyoung was in a small cubicle with white tiled walls.
This is officially my first day as a senior.
For some reason, Wooyoung looked terrified.
And yes, I know it's stupid to be nervous and jittery on my first day as a senior. But, it's my first day as a senior-that-got-promoted-to-the-honors-section-involuntarily. That means, for my last year, I will be taking all advanced placement classes in all subjects. Now, I did not sign up for this. The school administration did for me!
Wooyoung rolled his eyes.
Well, isn't it thrilling!?
Wooyoung smiled, forcefully. Nichkhun laughed.
Everything's up for grabs! Finally, the school's going to see some changes with me as one of their top students! Thank the lord!
Wooyoung tensely looked straight into the camera.
What is your problem!? What exactly is your problem, Principal Choi!? Couldn't you have just left me calm and at peace in the general classes? Well, I'm sorry if you're running out of smart, rich kids in your honors programs because of your difficult curriculum, but it's not my fault. It's not my fault, and it's not my responsibility to take the spot of whoever got demoted and left me this spot on the honors list!
I am not responsible! I am not responsible for helping you keep up a good image to those who believe that this school is the top fucking high school in the country! It's not. It's full of shitty-ass brainiacs who think they're better than everyone else!
This is not my responsibility!
Actually, it is.
Nichkhun recognized his own voice.
And, if I'm taking it in correctly, I guess I'm one of those shitty-ass-brainiacs-who-think-they're-better-than-everyone-else kids that you were referring to.
Wooyoung looked straight into the camera, wide-eyed. Then suddenly, the camera was directed towards the dirty tiled floor. Nichkhun could only see Wooyoung's black leather shoes. Wooyoung got out of the cubicle. Now, there were two pairs of black leather shoes in the frame of the screen.
I'm sorry you had to hear that.
Oh, no problem. I had a serious anxiety episode on my first day in the class, too. Of course, I immediately got placed in the honors class during my freshman year. So, I guess it's a bit different.
Nichkhun rolled his eyes as he heard himself boast.
I'm Nichkhun Horvejkul.
I think everyone in the school knows who you are. Nichkhun Horvejkul, champion of the Mathematics Marathon freshman, sophomore and junior year, champion of the National Sudoku Ikea Tournament, champion of the Annual Asian Technological Advancements Mathematics Competition, champi-
Yes, thank you for that. You can call me Khun, if you want. Only if you want to. Class will begin in ten minutes. I think we better get going.
Alright.
The two feet in the video frame started walking.
No cameras in class, Wooyoung.
I never told you my name.
Even though Nichkhun could not see Wooyoung's face onscreen, there was something in the way Wooyoung said it that made him smile.
Everyone knows the school's top dancer! Now, turn it off.
The screen went black for a couple of seconds before continuing to the next cut.
So, it's been well over two weeks since my first day in class. The two weeks went well, actually.
Wooyoung was in his room. He was dressed comfortably in black shorts and a gray tank top.
I'm sorry I haven't updated you on anything for two weeks.
Nichkhun didn't know Wooyoung kept a video diary. He seemed like the type that would film things he'd be interested in, but never seemed like the type that would talk straight into the camera.
I think I'm starting to like someone.
Wooyoung dropped his face to look at the floor, then faced back up with innocent eyes.
I think I'm starting to like Nichkhun. A lot.
It's weird, really. I've never been into the smart ones. Actually, I've always despised the smart ones. There's just something about Nichkhun that, I don't know, thrills me.
Wooyoung let out a soft giggle.
There's something in the way that he taps my back when he needs to ask me something that sends chills down my spine. He's seated right behind me in class, by the way. There's something in the way that he smells that sends me into a fun frenzy of thoughts about what he smiles like. He kind of smells like a bright summer morning. I mean, that's what immediately comes in my mind when I smell his scent. I asked him what perfume he uses the other day and he told me he doesn't have one. There's something in the way he grabs my wrist and pulls me to run faster when we're late for Physical Education class. His grip is so strong! It's almost too erotic just thinking about it.
But anyway, people in class, his class, have always known that Victoria kind of owns him. Victoria's this girl in class that has had a crush on Nichkhun ever since freshman year.
I kind of know her. I mean, I know she's a member of the team that does the school's monthly publication. I know she's a good writer. But aside from all the things mentioned, I don't know anything else about her. She is quite pretty, though. There's just something odd about the way her teeth shows when she smiles.
"True," Nichkhun said.
Plus, he always lets me copy all the answers to the math homework. And, he's never annoyed when I call him late at night to ask him about anything related to math.
Nichkhun's a cool guy.
Wooyoung's smile faded.
He'll never like me. I'm sure he doesn't like boys.
He is a function, and I am an asymptote. We will get closer and closer and closer to each other, but we will never be together.
The screen went black.
He's a really good soccer player.
Wooyoung's voice was heard on video. He was recording a soccer match between two teams. One of the teams wore white Seoul Academy jersey shirts and red shorts, and the other team wore the same outfit but with blue shorts.
Go Reds!
Nichkhun remembered that match.
Go Nichkhun!
Yeah! Go Nichkhun!
It was Victoria's voice.
Wooyoung zoomed in on Nichkhun. He was kicking ball. Everything was in his control.
Suddenly, a member from the blue team that stationed near the goalie approached Nichkhun. The blue team member got closer and closer to Nichkhun. They were then face to face. The blue team member tried to steal the ball, but Nichkhun kicked it slightly to the right, then to the left. It went on like that for a few seconds. All of a sudden, the blue team member kicked Nichkhun's right leg.
Nichkhun fell down on the ground.
The camera shook. It wasn't in focus.
Hey!
You can't do that!
Fuck!
The camera was shaking badly. Wooyoung ran towards Nichkhun. It seemed, from what was visible onscreen, that everyone was.
Can we get a paramedic, please!?
What the fuck!?
That stupid shit kicked this poor guy's balls!
Look at him! He's in agony!
Call the school clinic! Now!
The screen went black.
