At The Foot Of The Cross

With the Easter season upon us, I hope and pray that you all remember that this is the second part of the Christmas Story, and not about bunnies and beagles (had to get the Peanuts thing in there). Jesus did not remain in the manger a beautiful peaceful child. He wasn't just a guy who walked around and said and did good things, He was GOD. How cool would it have been to walk where He did, to hear Him speak, to be RIGHT THERE WITH GOD. But Jesus didn't just live out his life peacefully. He was taken out and beaten until, the Bible says, he was unrecognizable. He wasn't the pretty Da Vinci pictures we all know and love. He was more like what Mel Gibson's Passion portrayed, only even more hideous. He then walked the trail of shame, up to the hill called Golgotha outside of the walls of the city, and he was nailed to a cross. A cold, splintering, wooden cross. Where he suffered, bleed, and died for the sins of the world. Not because He figured it'd be a fun thing to do, He didn't just do it for the heck of it. Had He not come as the perfect sacrificial lamb we would never have a way to know God personally or even have the hope of getting into Heaven someday. To be eternally with the Father is what we all should be excited to be going to....

I'm not half as poetic or well written as some others. commodorejoplin is sharing Jesus' final days in his Journal and I encourage everyone to take a peek. It's a quick read and will get you right there in that time.

These lyrics written and recorded by Ray Boltz are some of the most beautiful and detailed. Another way to picture the most beautiful picture of love. My dad sings this song every so often, and I've grown to love it (I wish I had a copy of it on CD... dad has the tapes, but won't let me borrow them for fear I wouldn't return them lol)

I pray that if you don't know Him you will take the time to find out how. There's no greater love than His.

At The Foot Of The Cross

Words and music by Ray Boltz and Lawrence Chewning

They were watching from a distance
And they could not
Take their eyes from You
You were bleeding
They were weeping
Faithful sisters, they had followed you
They did not understand
They could not see
They were mourning their loss
As the sky turned black
And the Earth turned red
At the foot of the cross

He was standing near your mother
They were so close
They could hear you sighing
All around them angry voices
Pierced the darkness
And you were dying
But they would not leave
They lingered there
No matter the cost
They were staying
And they were praying
At the foot of the cross

CHORUS:
Keep me near the cross
Near the cross
May I never stray so far
That I cannot see
What flowed down for me
At the foot of the cross

Now Im standing in your presence
And I cannot take my eyes from you
You have risen Im forgiven
Precious Saviour, oh I worship you
No Im not looking back
Ive heard your voice
And Im staying here
Ive made my choice
For now its real, now I kneel
At the foot of the cross

CHORUS (repeat 2X)
