So I'm going through my old files for classes I had ages ago and found this short story that I did back in April of 2007 for my second semester of English 101. The assignment was a monologue and this is basically the story of my second laptop, Cheng, from the moment of his order until I got him.

Hi. My name is Cheng and I’m waiting for someone to buy me and give me a new home. Oh look! Here comes San to take one of us to the shipping line! Pick me! Pick me!! Yay! San picked me! I’m so happy, but wait. The shipping line’s that way. Where are we going, San? Ooooh…that’s the customization line; I’ve heard about it, but I never thought I would ever actually see it! A nice looking lady puts a temporary label on me with my new specifications on it and off I go.
Lets see…oh, hello good sir. I’m being customized. Are you here to help me? Hey. Wait a minute, what are you doing with that pointy thing? Sir? Ow! Hey, watch it, mister, I’m a delicate piece of hardware, you know! Why are you taking off my casing? Ooo…that tickles. OUCH! That wasn’t a tickle! That’s hot, what are you doing back there? Ow. Ow. Ow. Why is everything getting hazy? What did you do to me? Sir?
Finally! That man with the tickle-hot touch is gone and I’m moved down the line to another man, this one has a long cylinder in one hand and a pointy thing like the other guy in the other. I try to back away from him and his torturous devices, cause no way do I want that black thing near me, but I’m strapped down and can’t move. Hey, that’s my power supply you’re messing with! Leave that alone, or…oh no. They do want me to die! I gotta get out of here and warn the others! The man snaps the black thing to my power supply…and wow! I feel like I could take on the whole world! Lithium Ion? Oh! It’s a battery pack. Okay, then I suppose I can suffer through the poking.
After that guy I’m sent down to a tiny woman who types away at one of my older siblings. She’s got a stack of CDs beside her and when I get to her she taps open my disk drive and puts one in. Oh wow. My new owner’s getting Windows Vista! It’s so pretty and bright and everything moves! Oh…so that’s why that first guy poked me with his pointy thing-he was upgrading my memory so I could run Vista. Wow.
The next few hours are pretty boring stuff, mostly it’s the lady downloading the programs my new owner ordered into my hard drive. After a while, however, she’s finished and I move down to packing. Yay! Finally! I’m almost home! Hey, watch it, mister, I’m a customized dv6000z off to my new owner; you gotta respect me now. Okay, I’ve heard stories about the dark place so I don’t panic when I’m put in a snug bed and it gets dark around me. I feel my box being picked up then set down.
Days later, bored out of my circuits and starting to wonder if I’ll ever see my new owner, I hear a high pitched whine, squeal really, and feel myself carefully placed down. Seconds later there’s light and I get my first look at my new owner. Life is good because now I’m home.
