LJ Cuts... and scratches!
The LJ Cut has always caused a lot of contention. Normally you get in trouble for not using one. (I, on the other hand, seem to get into trouble FOR using them. Go figure.)
Anyway I was thinking wouldn't it be great if your friends theme determined how you interacted with that particular tag? If you were only interested in the general overview your scheme could hide the contents contained within the cut... but if you were more thorough it could be set to show the contents by default.
