“The little things? The little moments? They aren't little.” -John Zabat-Zinn
Pt. 1 The phone was sitting in the middle of the coffee table. Sunny had been engaged in a staring match with it, a battle of wills that had gone on for the better part of an hour. Munch, who had been watching from a distance, sat down next to Sunny and tried to hand the phone to her.
"No, I'm not ready yet," she protested
"Not ready? What's there to be ready for, its just a phone call,"
"Yeah to my ex who I haven't spoken to since college asking him to surrender all parental rights to his daughter,"
"The daughter he never wanted," Munch countered quickly
"Still," she said
"Just do it, quick like pulling off a band-aid," he said attempting to put the phone in her hand once more "Jesus would want you to."
"Were was Jesus when the condom broke?" she snapped "We wouldn't be in this mess if he had kept up his end of the deal,"
"You don't mean that" Munch said slightly amused at seeing her so frazzled.
"You're right, I don't," she conceded "alright just give me the damn phone."
She snatched the phone from his hand and slowly dialed the number from the slip of paper she had been holding in her hand. There's were a couple moments of silence as the phone rang. For a moment she looked relieved, then Munch heard a man's voice on the other line and Sunny's eyes went wide.
"He-hello? Daniel? Yeah. I bet you don't remember me. This is Sunny Mu-uh-Truscott," there was a pause and then she giggled a little like a teenage girl placating her very unfunny date.
"I'm fine, I'm great. Yeah, I work for the NYPD, CSU," another pause "I wish it was as easy as the show," she laughed again. Munch was taking secret pleasure in watching her squirm. He knew how how uncomfortable she was, it read so clearly on her face.
"How are you? What have you been up to all this time?" another pause, this one a little longer.
"Wow, I always knew you were going to do something great. You were always so driven," the last couple words were tinged with a noticeable hint of sarcasm.
"Anyways Daniel," she continued a little brusquely "I have something very important I have to discuss with you and I'd rather not do it over the phone," pause "why don't we do it at my house?"
There was another brief pause then she rattled off their address and hung up the phone. Sunny sighed, tossed the phone back on the coffee table and allowed herself to fall into her husband's lap.
"That wasn't too hard was it?" Munch smirked.
Sunny tried to keep her face indifferent she looked up at his face but she couldn't help but smile and break out into uncontrollable fits of laughter.
