"Let's talk about being away from your wife, Detective."
Munch looked up from the band-aid on the back of his hand. He and the good Doctor Love had a standing date every week, usually he had Sunny by his side but today that was not an option and with every passing moment he starting to regret his decision to come in.
"What do you want to know? I'm sleeping on my former partners couch, I haven't eaten a decent meal all week unless you count the food at the hospital, and I haven't seen my kid in days. It sucks."
"And do you blame your wife for that?"
"No, I know I'm the one that screwed everything up but here's the thing, I thought the truth would set me free. Now, I think I would have been better off taking that secret to my grave."
"I know you don't wish to reveal what it is you and your wife spoke about that night but whatever it is I think it was very brave of you to tell her."
"How about you tell her that."
Munch didn't have any patience for therapy and it was getting harder to hide it but if Dr. Love ever picked up on his irritation, she never showed it.
"How had the separation changed the way you view your marriage?" she asked.
"It feels like she's miles away and I don't just mean in the physical sense."
"Do you think your relationship will survive the separation?" she asked without looking up from her notes. Munch let his elbows come to rest on his knees and placed his chin in his cradled palms.
"That's a good question, I'll have to get back to you on that."
