DITL, Birthday Roundup, and a Frustrating Doctor Visit

Aug 28, 2012 13:14

So, I managed to do DITL last week! My entry is here if you feel like having a look. I had fun doing it, even if it's actually a lot of work to remember to take pictures of your entire day, and I might try it again next month. If nothing else, it made Olivia more interested in having her picture taken.

Speaking of Olivia, she's officially two!

A couple of days before her birthday, the easel from Nana and Papa arrived, and there was no hiding that from her!

On the morning of her birthday, we gave her the presents from us, and the clothes and hair things from my sisters and their families.

She's super excited about the barrettes and hair bows!

Mama and Daddy did good picking out the little doodle-y thinger.

Best gift? The doctor kit! Here's Olivia checking Daddy's ears before he goes to work Friday morning.

That evening, Olivia opens a fishing game puzzle from Nana and Papa.

The tea set from the aunts, uncles, and cousins was a big hit!

I felt bad on Saturday that we were saving cake for Sunday's party, so I got her a cupcake while I was out. She loved it kind of a lot, though after that frosting, it looked like she'd eaten a Smurf!

Sunday's party was rather ruined by tropical storm Isaac - Grandpa couldn't make it, and neither could our friends Lesley and Justin, but the neighbors swam through the puddles to get to our apartment, and we soldiered on!

Olivia checks out a Blue's Clues ABC DVD from our neighbor Gary. He also brought her a walking and barking puppy since he knows she loves dogs.

She LOVES the monkey from our neighbor John. He's basically a dress up doll with different clothes she can put on him.

Mama's favorite of the birthday gifts is a framed picture of the birthday girl herself from our neighbors Michael and David. I love this so much!

Happy birthday, Little Pookie!

The cake was a hit!

I can't believe Olivia is two already!

This morning I took Miss O to her two year checkup at the ped's office. She's 34 pounds and 35 inches tall! Which, according to the pediatrician is "too heavy" so we should "feed her less food" and "keep her active" - blah, blah, broken record. ARGH. I'm so tired of this doctor and his constant harping on her weight. She's perfectly proportionate, but big for her age, which she has been since the day she was born. She eats just fine and gets plenty of time to run around. He also seemed surprised that we haven't started potty training yet. Uh, SHE JUST TURNED TWO. It's not the old days, doc, when kids had to be completely potty trained by 18 months or else, you know? Weirdly, he was also really pushing daycare/preschool. He's been super supportive of me being a SAHM for the past two years, so to hear him change his tune and tell me that she should be in some sort of daycare or preschool within the next six months was a shock. I think a proper preschool at three or four would be great, but until then, I'd rather pay for a weekly activity and find playgroups for us to go to. She can already count to 20, knows her alphabet, knows her colors, and talks in full sentences quite a lot of the time. Preschool is going to socialize her, which we can do in other ways. I hate frustrating visits to the pediatrician.

All righty! Time to make lunch and get ready for nap - what's new with y'all?

beautiful day in the gayborhood, an apple a day, adventures in motherhood, flames on the side of my face, a day in the life, in the family way, olivia simone, scattered pictures
