An update, a rant, some unpopular opinions, and some pictures

Aug 16, 2012 17:28

So apparently I never update anymore, nor do I comment on anyone else's posts, and most of the time lately I'm ignoring the Internet altogether (apart from Facebook and email) in favor of reading a book or playing Words With Friends (I am officially addicted). Thus, an update.

Leo seems to have settled into his new job pretty well and is doing all sorts of fun things, none of which I know a thing about! He's happy doing what he's doing, though, and is much less stressed than he was in his old job. I think the combination of interesting and challenging work and the relaxed atmosphere and dress code have really made him look forward to going into work every day.

Unbelievably, Miss Olivia is going to be two next Friday! We're just going to have a low-key cake and ice cream celebration with local family and close friends next Sunday, but she and I did pick out some Yo Gabba Gabba! plates and cups and napkins for the party. Leo is going to do her birthday present shopping this weekend, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to send him out for balloons next week, too.

In super exciting news, my mom and dad have planned another trip down here to south Florida for the end of October. They're renting a house for a week, and conveniently, it's about a five minute drive from our condo, so they'll be close by and have all the comforts of home instead of staying in a hotel. I'm really looking forward to seeing them again so soon, and I'm hoping we'll have some decent weather (not hot or rainy) so we can get out and do some things.

A small rant, if you will. I am becoming increasingly annoyed with everyone (and I do mean everyone, even total strangers) asking when Leo and I plan to have another baby. Why is this something that people feel they can ask? Do people not realize that it's an incredibly personal and intrusive question? What makes people think that just because you have one child that you must want another, and the sooner the better? What if it just so happens that we don't have a second child because we aren't able to have one? What if we're just content being a three person family and *gasp* don't want to have another? I've tried to be polite, to smile and tell people that we haven't discussed a second child yet, or that we're still getting to know Olivia, but I'm almost at the point that I'm going to start being very rude to anyone who asks from now on. Seriously, WHAT ON EARTH makes people think that this is an okay question to ask?

And now that's done, pictures! All taken on my iPhone.

Olivia climbed up on the chaise with me and said "I take a picture!"

In non-Olivia news, my husband continues to be a good looking dude, even if his taste in baseball teams is lacking.

In unsurprising news, Olivia continues to adore Grandma. And tutus. And her Olivia shirt.

Miss O got some new clothes recently. Here she is wearing what she calls her 'taxi shirt' and looking super cute.

We went to the Cypress Creek Food Truck Round-Up last week with our friends Justin and Lesley and their new baby, Aria. Olivia had a hot dog!

More of Olivia's new clothes - I really liked the hippo shirt!

Seriously, this girl is the love of my life. ♥

Someone is a big fan of Daddy's grilled corn on the cob!

The train table at Barnes & Noble is always a huge hit.

That's Not My Penguin is one of her current favorites. She loves getting to the last page and saying "THAT'S MY PENGUIN!"

Mama hates the kitty keyboard kind of a lot, but it's kind of cute now that Olivia's gotten the hang of using the microphone.

The book of Dora puzzles that Daddy picked out for her at aforementioned Barnes & Noble visit? Best. Ever. Also, more new clothes. I love the bunny with glasses t-shirt.

Okay, that concludes the photo segment of this post.

In TV news, I am so glad the effing Olympics are over! In movie-watching news, we saw The Ides of March the other night, and I thought it was crap. I love George Clooney, and I think that Ryan Gosling fellow could be a great actor, but holy unresolved ending, Batman! Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good unresolved ending, but that was a pretty bad unresolved ending. I was super annoyed that such an excellent cast (George Clooney! Marisa Tomei! Philip Seymour Hoffman!) was wasted on such a shit film, and I had some serious trouble with the progression of Ryan Gosling's character from the beginning of the movie to the end.

So what's new with y'all? I feel like no one is ever on LJ anymore. I miss being able to connect with people here and interact. There seems to be far less interaction than there used to be. What's up with that?

working hard for the money, adventures in motherhood, flames on the side of my face, a day in the life, in the family way, the idiot box, and now my heart is full, olivia simone, scattered pictures, let's all go to the movies, sometimes i get my rant on
