So, who remembers
last month when this happened? That was kind of shitty, right? Well, we had the brake light repaired, mailed in a copy of the repair receipt and the $95 fine, and checked that particular task off our to do list.
Fast forward to this morning when I found a letter from the Broward County Clerk of Court in my mailbox telling me that they received my proof of repair and check for $95, but that I owe an extra $20 on top of that because I did not have a Ft. Lauderdale police officer sign off on the ticket, acknowledging that the repair had been made. CUE INCANDESCENT RAGE ON MY PART.
The officer who wrote me the ticket told me only to have the repair made and send in proof along with the $95. The brochure listing your options for resolution of traffic offenses says only to make the repair and send in proof with $95 OR don't send in proof with $115. NOWHERE DOES IT STATE THAT I MUST HAVE AN OFFICER SIGN THE TICKET. AT NO POINT WHEN I WAS PULLED OVER DID THE OFFICER VERBALLY INDICATE THAT THIS WAS A REQUIREMENT.
So I decided to call the phone number provided in the letter, and after giving them the case number and explaining the situation, the woman I spoke to transferred me to the Traffic Division, where I again explained the issue and was transferred to a supervisor. The supervisor then explained to me that THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME and many people are stuck paying the extra fine because the officers are not telling people that they must have the ticket signed by a police officer prior to payment. GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKER HOLY SATAN'S FLAMING ASSHOLE WHAT IS THIS FUCKERY? Are y'all serious with this shit? People all over Broward County are being forced to pay extra money because the cops can't do their jobs? That's beyond fucked up.
So this morning, I am giving the middle finger and a big 'ol FUCK YOU to the Ft. Lauderdale Police Department AND Broward County.
