Sometimes, old films will make a big deal out of something that that was a big deal back in its day, like
interracial couples. Modern films sometimes feature interracial couples but they're no longer a big deal - they're just another unremarkable part of the contemporary cultural background. Same-sex couples are beginning to turn that corner. "Oh my god there are gay people"
movies are slowly turning into films where gay couples exist as yet another unremarkable part of the contemporary cultural background.
Post-apocalyptic films like "28 Days Later" are all about things falling apart and society going to hell in a handbasket. Making a big deal out major disasters and the end of the world. I'd like to see a fuller exploration of post-post-apocalyptic tales. Stories where the apocalypse happened, people freaked out for a while, and then it became yet another unremarkable part of the contemporary cultural background. For example a remake of "Leave it to Beaver" which is all about Wally's big date for Prom, with only the most passing of casual reference to the heavily fortified venue or concerns about radiation leaks and alien vampire infiltrators.
