So I'm flying out to Florida in a little over 2 weeks to go to the
Hukilau with
matrushkaka. Then I'm flying to Atlanta to see her mom, brother, and various Georgians. Then I'm flying back to California.
Anyway I waited a little too long to buy my tickets and I was worried that they'd be expensive. Not so. I just booked a ticket from SFO->PBI and then ATL->SFO. Total price for this cross-country ticket, including tax and "fuel surcharges"? $278.90
But it gets better, sorta. I'm a frequent flyer on United, and I'll be accruing 5338 miles. If I
bought those miles it would have cost me $203. Which means that the marginal cost of the trip after subtracting the value of the miles earned makes the whole thing just $75.61.
OK, maybe not. The actual value of miles isn't necessarily the same as the cost of those miles - I can't exactly convert them back to dollars and use them to pay off my credit card - but I'm still pretty happy about this ticket price.
For the record, this is the first time I've been happy about an airline ticket price since Sandwich's $450 round trip to Tokyo find for
Santacon 2003.
