Early Voting

Do you feel like you just want to get this election over with? If you live in one of 32 states you can get in your car right now and go vote. San Francisco voters can vote in the basement of City Hall. Los Angeles voters can vote at the County Clerk's office. Check with your county clerk if you live somewhere else ( Read more... )

I believe you're supposed to vote early AND often. I'm sure you'll get one eventually.

No, that's only in Chicago. Unless you're dead -- then you only get to vote once.

Yes, at least in Colorado. A young woman proudly showed me the I Voted sticker on her purse. You don't get one if you mail your ballot, though.

The flip side advantage of not having political campaigns bother you again is that you let the volunteers focus on the people who haven't gotten their shit together. If you vote early, your candidate may get more votes.

The campaigns (at least Obama's) have done a good job turning out the early vote. In 2 hours or so canvassing yesterday I only encountered about two people who hadn't voted yet. A million people have voted early in North Carolina and there's still a week left to do so. This means that canvassing is easy even for socially awkward people. From this point, the focus is making sure people who support your candidate know where and when to vote. The majority of the conversations may be as simple as "Hi, I'm canvassing in support of Barack Obama. Have you voted yet?" "Yes." That requires less social skill than ordering a hamburger and a beer.
