Google Reader for non-LJ content

I've been using LiveJournal syndication to read RSS feeds. It's worked more or less well, but billzunderman asked me to try Google Reader instead. It's actually pretty nice. Unlike LJ, Reader keeps track of what I've read and what I haven't read which means I know when I'm caught up. It lets me group my feeds by topic so that I can read all the new comics ( Read more... )

I made this move a while back as well. Google Reader is also pretty good on the iPhone, and I like that I won't end up reading the same item on my iPhone as I do on my computer. How does it fare on your Sidekick?

I started using NetNewsReader on iPhone for this -- it's a client app.

What I like about Google Reader is that it's all integrated. I can read a little on my home machine, a little on my work machine, a little on my iPod Touch ... and it all stays in sync. It remembers what I've seen already. The problem with any client-side approach is that it doesn't stay synced when I change clients.

I haven't tried the client version of NetNewsWire but I believe because of its use of NewsGator, it does sync.

I guess I should try it. : )

Hmm. Have you tried Google Reader?

The ability to have the same feeds and mark individual items as read from either my MBP or my iPhone is awfully convenient. NetNewsReader would have to either do the same thing or have some very compelling other features for me to switch.

What do you like best about NetNewsReader? Does it offer syncing with a desktop client?

Itnlooks like it does offer client syncing on mobile and desktop.

I like client apps over web apps for UI responsiveness and the ability to work even when the net isn't present.
