“Tantrik power versus Science”

Mar 25, 2008 11:58

There's a running joke among scientists / skeptics / atheists that they have a "skeptical shield". They don't get abducted by aliens, their houses don't get haunted, they're immune to curses and hexes, etc. The skeptical shield was demonstrated four weeks ago on nationwide Indian TV as Pandit Surinder Sharma, India's India’s most “powerful” tantrik attempted (with permission) to kill Sanal Edamaruku, president of Rationalist International, with an “ultimate destruction ceremony” on live TV. This is important stuff in India where mainstream politicians accuse their rivals of cursing them with black magic.

Needless to say Sanal Edamaruku barely survived the tantrik attack, and Pandit Surinder Sharma did not enjoy any post-ultimate-destruction ice cream.
