Mixed Metaphors

Feb 23, 2007 18:12

Dear Headline Writers: please do not mix your metaphors with headlines like these. A "bevy" is a group of either quail or young beautiful women. "Unleashing" is something done to dangerous animals trained to attack and/or kill. "Unleashing a bevy" is ridiculous, unless of course we're talking about a bevy of killer attack quail. Which is ridiculous. MY POINT EXACTLY.

"But what about women? Can't you have a bevy of young beautiful women on leashes? You know, if you're a pimp or something?"

Yes you can, but unless they all run in a kill-crazy frenzy when you let go of their leashes it misses the whole point of why "unleashing" something is exciting. It's missing the whole point if you "unleash" a bevy of women and they just stand around chatting, leashes dangling limply from their necks. Or if they run away screaming when you unleash them then that's not sexy anymore, that's white slavery.
