pecunium on the McCain torture compromise

Sep 27, 2006 10:44

I write most of my political content because I don't see anyone expressing "my take" on the issue, because the other writing I find either overstates the point, doesn't go far enough, or ignores what I think are crucial factors.

I haven't written a followup to my torture debate post analyzing the absolutely awful McCain "compromise" because pecunium has said everything for me. pecunium has done a considerable amount of writing on the subject, possibly because he is a professional interrogator in the National Guard and appears to take his work seriously.

I can think of only one political issue more imporant than the way our justice system has changed in response to terrorism. The way we identify wrongoders, the ways we determine whether these are the right wrongdoers, the way we attempt to extract information from alleged wrongdoers, the ways we allow or prevent them from proving their innocence, and the continued military imprisonment of prisoners who military tribunals have determined are innocent. pecunium consistently writes smarter, better articles than I do on the subject with more authority than I have. If your reading schedule is so packed that you can't afford to add one more person, drop me and add him instead. And read his coverage on the McCain torture bill. It's an absolute travesty, a gift to today's overreaching power-mad executives and tomorrow's.
