Hijacking an Apple security discussion in 60 Seconds or Less

Aug 21, 2006 13:50

Earlier this month a company called SecureWorks announced at BlackHat that they could hack a MacBook remotely. I announced that their story seemed a little fishy because they used a third party card whose drivers did not exist for OSX, because they wouldn't demonstrate the hack in person, and because their excuses for their behavior didn't make any sense.

Apparently my hunch was right: SecureWorks has admitted to falsifying the MacBook wireless hack. Apple never "leaned on them" to not publish their hack with the native hardware, and they did not discover a flaw in the native OSX AirPort drivers. That's not to say that what they described is impossible, just that the vulnerability that they claimed exists is not actually known by them.
