On Tuesday I took my half-day off and went to Siggraph.  Unlike previous years I didn't get the Full Conference since my employer wouldn't let me attend more than four hours of the world's most work-related conference at my own expense.

I was completely outclassed at the end by a guy who wrote an interactive 3D viewer using Renderman as its front end.

"You do this for ten years
And the day after the back page of some local rag says you're great

And he closes the show with a gag he stole from you,
And that's showbiz."

If this guy stole any part of his act from me I'd be the happiest most flattered person on earth. It was enough to be sitting in the audience looking at the guy next to me and both of us going "whaaaaaaa?"

the coolest thing this year was Parasitic Humanoid, which applies electricity to your brainstem to control your balance. [info]buttercup666 and I steered each other around with the remote control and it kicked much ass.

Dang, I wish I could have tried this one out.

There was some discussion about whether you could have tried it out. Your mom mentioned that your semicurcular canals were damaged from your meningitis, but that you're somehow able to maintain your balance. This might mean the device would work, or it might mean that you'd be immune. I saw our 'terp friend (Mona?) with a few deafies in tow: she was going to try to convince them to try it out, but I never heard whether it worked.

Terp friend: if it was the Caco lady, it's Mona. If it's the Ranger, it's Beauty.
