First, a new year's greeting I found in my inbox this morning: the rise and decline of debauchery

2008 was the year of unexpected blessings. I traveled much more than I'm used to, listened to more people, and gamed less (although I still burn my time internetting; I forsee lots of wii tennis with my parents and YS, but that's not considered 'burning time'). so welcome, 2009: the year of working harder.
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
roadtripped with YS to Penang for Betty's wedding; took Grumbo roadtripping to Lumut for BUM; traveled to Chicago and Kyoto and didn't pay for it! arguably each trip cost well over a week of staying up all night and some years off my life BUT they were the best trips of my life.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
some. I have a list of things to draw and make and things to do with my family and friends in 2009.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
no. why does everyone keep mentioning babies to me
4. Did anyone close to you die?
no
5. What countries did you visit?
the States, Singapore, Japan
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
confidence, compassion, perseverance, calm
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
though it was not my election, November 4th was awesome.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
being invited to Lingua Comica 3 and collaborating on a comic with Emma Rios.
9. What was your biggest failure?
failing to follow up on many things.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
dengue once, migraines and cramps otherwise. also I was chased by an angry monkey but it had no lasting effects.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
a remarkably tough handbag which has not disintegrated yet (outlet Coach bags are pretty worth it)
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
ES has certainly mellowed throughout the year; by the end she was sort of gracefully accepting birthday surprises and ruthlessly organizing end of year parties. SK started off a graceful slacker and is now a 14-hour-workday machine through sheer hard work, fear of THM, and hard thinking, left to right, top to bottom... Here's to their joyous future, hopefully together!

local politicians
14. Where did most of your money go?
mostly traveling, gas/toll/parking, books and food; am keeping a kakeibo in 2009 to keep track of where it really goes
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Chicago with YS, Perhentian with YS & friends, August holiday with mum dad sis and bro, dad's 60th birthday bash, Lingua Comica, Tokyo with YS, Christmas with YS, planning MY's wedding
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
that Jason Mraz song, although first it will remind me of Betty's beach wedding
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier, a little more at peace
ii. thinner or fatter? same
ii. richer or poorer? richer, in friendships and relationships
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
DRAW HERO. I put drawing on the back burner after applying for LC3, I'm just too good at finding excuses.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
procrastinating, making excuses
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
at church and YS's friends' parties, though semi-asleep

yes, with a person and a city

I have been good this year

Chuck (though I hardly watched it, SK quotes it so much he is now our Chuck and all that is left is to find him a hot secret agent bodyguard girlfriend)

local politicians (I did dislike them then, now I dislike them more)

my family home for the holidays!

fair governance and an end to corruption (in Malaysia)

私と犬の１０約束. the dad was the most helpless sweetheart character ever

26; lunch with the family right after coming back from redang, and dad's 60th birthday dinner in the evening. august is such an awesome month for everyone to come home.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
working harder
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
"the year of the OL on a budget". this year I am going to make my own goddamn French smock / shift dresses
34. What kept you sane?
the legacy of the mangz and sistaz from the SD project emailing each other stupid things; SK's scandalous gchats and Tales of THM; YS (although he sometimes drove me crazy as well)
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
DEVIL SUMMONER RAIDOU KUZUNOHA I really have to get this game don't I
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
"all malaysians are equal. but some malaysians are more equal than others"

friends I failed to follow up on.

all the lingua comica people but especially emma and ken. our mountain is always alive!
